Static cling when you try to but sewing threads in trash can while sewing. I usually have paper towels in my sewing area and soda bottle with water in case I want iron an fabric. I found that if I take a couple paper towels and wade them up in my trash can and pour some water on them that the next time I go to put threads in the trash can the static is under control This is what I have been doing anyway. Others may have a better idea

Good tip, worth remembering, thanks.

Dry air is the reason for static cling, and a spray bottle of filtered or distilled water is a handy, inexpensive humidifier--just spritz the air around you, and/or the trash can. I often do my whole house in my dry Sacramento-area climate; at work too, where all the office machines dry out the air. (I like filtered or distilled water so I don't leave any marks on fabrics or furniture.

I tried the ball of foil in the dryer for static and it worked great. i wonder if this would work for the trash too?
