I am in the process of making a stained glass quilt. I inherited a "started" project when I inherited a stash back in February. They are all paper pieced and I really enjoy doing it. What I have been doing is pulling fabrics, cutting them as you would for paper piecing and then doing one or two blocks when I feel inspired. I am in no hurry to finish it. Hope the following pics help you in your inspiration/idea phase. I attached the finished blocks. She had only made 2 and I have done the rest. The quilt I will make will be 20 blocks. The bin of fabric is all of the fabric that I inherited and will use in this project. It is so gorgeous!!!

Some one mentioned this type. How do you handle the raw edges if you do not cover them with tape. Your tiger is beautiful.

galvestonangel 11-01-2010 07:06 PM

Oh, I forgot. I also do the glass stained glass and you could get a lot of patterns from stained glass books.

Roseysue 11-01-2010 08:01 PM

I'm looking for a pattern that has just different vivid colors separated by the black "lead". They are so beautiful, but I need a pattern. Not ready to just create. Any suggestions?

Roseysue 11-01-2010 08:05 PM

Thanks Christinetindell. Those colors are just outstanding and what I am looking for. I have never paper pieced and would have to find help for that. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Roseysue 11-01-2010 08:18 PM

I will see what I can find. You're right. I'm sure there's lots of info on the stained glass out there.

bjdemir 11-01-2010 08:53 PM

all the stained glass shown here are beautiful. Very inspiring. Have this on my list for after the first of the year.

The paper pieced method is easy because you don't have to deal with bias leading, you just use black fabric as is. I love the book 'Foundation Pieced Stained Glass Quilts II by Liz Schwartz & Stephen Seifert and it can be purchased on eBay for $9.95.

janedee 11-01-2010 09:30 PM

you can buy ready made bias or make your own and stitch it down whichever way you want

some beautiful patterns here.

I have found ideas for them by entering 'Free stained glass patterns' in a couple different search engines. I would think if you offered to share a photo, they might be willing to help you design one. They are the best at designing from that "frame" of art. You could also look at stained glass windows around you (if any) and get ideas there. Try color books for inspiration, then make your own. Make sure to post your results! I can't wait to see what you all come up with.

Ladies all your stain glass projects are just amazing. I too have wanted to learn this.
Oh I will probably not live long enough to do all I have on my "want to" list.
Thanks for sharing...so inspiring!

Web site to go for patterns. www.AnotherByAnita.com.
She has many patterns and they are easier than using bias tape.
She uses a black fabric or an appropriate color and then fuses the pattern pieces to the background so that black background shows through and looks like the black bias trim.

Thanks soooo much Farm Quilter. The stained glass are beautiful! I just love those stained glass colors. I think one will be my next quilt (ormaybe wallhanging)

Roseysue 11-02-2010 08:16 AM

The first stained glass project I want to do is like a window with all shapes in different colors. After that I am getting inspired with all the gorgeous pictures. Thanks for all the info

I made a stained glass quilt several years ago, its a different pattern. If interested under "search" put stained glass quilt in and mine is the 3rd one down....don't know how to show it....

Christinetindell,
Those are wonderful! I'd love to have that book!

Dkm 11-02-2010 01:21 PM

I use wonder under to attach them and then mono thread and a blanket stitch. Then I quilt each piece.
