Ok, this morning I bought a quilting stencil for the SB Sue frame. Since it's on white, should I use the silver pencil or cinnamon. If I do use cinnamon is it going to stain the white cotton? I've worked too hard on this to ruin it now. I'm still undecided as to which of my new stencils I want to use. One is a rope like stencil on which I'll use the variegated gold colored thread & the other is a vine with leaves which I really feel should be done in forest green. I've got to lay it out & put one stencil on each side to see which I like better.

Can you try them out on some scraps and then wash them? :D:D:D

I would be afraid to use the cinnamon. Let us know how it works out if you try it on scraps!

I"d go with the silver... if any does not wash out.. it will looks more like highlighting and not a dark stain...

I use Sewline pen. It is erasable and washable.

Cinnamon is one of the spices used as a natural dye for fabrics (and hair). Probably not wise to use it to mark stencil patterns.

I have made a small pounce using cinnamin, and had no problems. I just used a sq. of old fabric, put in a spoon full of cinnamin, and tied it with thread. It did not make any stains. However, I would do as was suggested, and try it on a sample of your cloth, to make sure. All fabrics are not created equal! I have trouble with a lot of the pencils not marking well for me. You can also get the regular pounce powder at quilt shops. I believe it was John Flynn on Simply Quilts who used cinnamin. Was also used in "the olden days" Good luck. I love SB Sue!

Thank you everyone! I guess I'll stick with the silver pencil. Someone had told me about the cinnamon & I wasn't sure about it. Having used a lot of cinnamon in baking, it just seemed like a stain waiting to happen, but they said it washes right out. I'm not that brave after all the work that went into this quilt! I knew someone here would know! Thank you for your help!

If you use the silver one DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT iron---just the like the blue air/water erase ones iron/heat sets this pen.... Yep, I have a beautiful log cabin quilt I made that has silver color under every stitch of the quilting......
