stamped embroidery

Does anyone know how to get out the blue marks on prestamped embroidery fabric?

Lori S 08-11-2015 02:26 PM

I have never had any success so I will be anxious to see if someone has the solution. It does get lighter with repeated washings.

Some don't come out, sorry.

coopah 08-11-2015 03:05 PM

Never came out for me, either.

I always thought you just had to be sure to cover them up with your embroidery stitches.

quiltingcandy 08-11-2015 05:49 PM

I just washed them and have never had a problem. But if you iron them, I understand it causes a problem.

I just made sure I covered them with the embroidery stitches. I always stitched on the scant outside of the line or some do an outline stitch. Never tried washing the ink out!

How new is the stamped piece? I have a quilt on my bed that my beloved Aunt embroidered the blocks and set them together with sashing and my daughter and I hand quilted the blocks on the blue dotted lines that were provided. My Aunt passed away in 1999 and I was able to get the quilt from her daughter and it has been on my bed ever since and washed umpteen times and line-dried outside and the blue lines are still there.

Now, the newer embroidery pieces are stamped with turquoise ink - so don't know if they are the same. HTH

As far as I know they don't come out. They won't show after you stitch.

I thought washing would remove the blue lines.

I have done several and as far as I know, they don't come out. Good incentive to embroider neatly! I have also seen some vintage quilts and they still had the markings.

I just soak in cold water, and they have always come out for me.

susanlh 08-13-2015 03:40 AM

I have never had an issue. I make sure I don't expose the piece to heat such as an iron or leaving in hot car. I throw in the washer on cold without detergent and run it completely through a cycle. If need be, I then wash like normal. Good luck.

I thought the blue washed out. Haven't done one since I was very young.

I have had some success with soaking in cool water for 30 min and then swishing about in the water. have better luck with the inside but the stitching line is almost impossible.

And there lies the problem. You just never know until you are finished. You might try asking the manufacturer before you purchase.

The kit I did recently for a customer...said the marks would not come out. It was a kit from 1980's. Some newer kits have a water soluble marking...but I've only found that in the blocks, not wholecloths.

They will lighten with age and washing's, but they never totally come out. The lines have to be covered up with your stitching (and that's a pain when the print is off). I have been known to use embellishments when a cross stitch, was printed wonky. Good luck

The embroidery transfer patterns that I used years ago will not come out. They were transferred onto my cloth with a hot iron. I have in the last few years bought some pre-printed crib quilt tops that will start to run if I get it wet. Unless I embroider then use crayons and color and heat set it - THEN the markings don't come out. I know better now. Keep it dry until it's completed and then wash it.

I have never been able to get them out...
