There was a tutorial for "star spin table topper" that I cannot find. One was in Russian and another in English. Anyone remember when the English one was on the blog?

So glad you are doing the star spin table runner. I wanted to do it but the measurements dont make sense to me. Its five rows of a strata all measuring 5 1/2 inches so I dont know how much each strip should measure. After you start it please let us know how many inches is each strip. Maybe I am missing something?

I want to make this too and got a pattern thing online. don't understand it so i forwarded to kaye woods. i heard from one of her people who said she was interested in doing one so maybe we'll get a kaye lesson. and get to do it her way.

The way I understand it you get to make your strips any size you want adding up to the 5 1/2 inches by doing so it makes yours unique

The pattern I have says to cut each strip 1 1/2" wide and uses 8 colors from dark to light. I've had the pattern, read it a dozen times, watched the tutorials and still can't figure it out. (It's hard to find 8 fabrics that go together). I'm determined to do it tho!!
Good luck with this everyone.

Check out Nuances by P&B textiles. there are 7 colors from light to dark and you could add a really dark to them for your 8 colors. That's what I have to use but no time to start it! You do have to cut lengthwise instead of seam to seam.

Bought the fabric for mine. I have it in line to do also!!

Some else just gave you the post number to open up. The quilter's name on her avatar is roolen if that helps in the future.
She does absolutely fabulous quilting. If I remember correctly on her blog or one of her posts, she said she is an engineer. That would certaintly help with her measurements being perfect. Good luck.

An FYI....be careful what colour you use for the outer edge of your "dark". I made one with C'mas fabrics for the coffee table in our lobby at work. My outer fabric was red. Someone made a comment that the first thing they saw was a swaztika. (sp?) Now, that is all I see when I look at it. I will applique something on it to tone that down....but it really was a disappointment to hear that. :(

I would never have seen that until you mentioned it. then it stuck out. I will keep that in mind.

Patti: I would never have noticed it either--I think your topper is great.
I have a question: the pattern instr. say arrange from dark to light; when I look at pics, it seems the fabrics are arranged in any color arrangement. Do I have to do dark to light or can I do my own color placement? Thank you!!

Pzazz 01-30-2011 07:05 PM

janRN....the instructions do say dark to light, but I would think you could do whatever colour arrangement you like. No quilt police allowed. ;)
