When & how do you do this? Good advice for all new quilters!
|
i starch every time i iron, it is probably wrong but it really makes the fabric stiff. and helps it keep its shape. I am a new quilter and learned this little trick on here actually. never starched or sized in my life till now. love it. thanks for this post.
If I am doing it wrong please tell me. I would rather do it the right way. |
I am not an expert quilter, but I'm an expert "starcher." I know that quilters are divided on this topic, but here's my 2 cents. I wash every piece of fabric as soon as I bring it home. Then iron it using spray starch in the "heavy" version. I fold up the fabric and add it to my stash. I spent the 5th of July doing this very thing (bought lots of fabric during the week-end sales).

Is your fabric is going to stay in your stash for a while, I'd caution you about starching before you store it. Some, if not all, starches can negatively effect the fibers if left on for long periods of time. I think it would be better to store unstarched and do it when you use the fabric.
