I have this (crazy ??) idea of making a quilt for our silver wedding anniversary next year - I'm starting now as I need lots of time, plus its also our sons 21st in the same month next year & he too is getting a quilt.
Anyway, here I am rambling along ... my plan doesnt have a pattern as such, but rather to make a number of blocks - some of varying sizes - then link them all together with say, strips of flying geese, friendship stars etc. I havent progressed very far with this quilt at all yet, just making 2 separate Churn Dash blocks with fussy cut bits of cattle & sheep in each.
I have also found a block on Quilters Cache of a black labrador dog which I would like to do but in golden lab colours for my DH's dog Benji. - would like to say he's my dog too, but I don't get a look in when DH is home.
We used to live on a farm where DH grew up, so would like to make it with some references to our life there - like the John Deere tractor we had, the sheep, cows & lab (as above) but ... sorry for the long story - would like a star or two at least in the quilt & am really struggling to find a pattern that will stand-alone in a quilt.
That is, I don't want to have a simple little star that could be lost in all of the other blocks as mentioned above, but it would be nice to have something about in the middle that maybe draws the eye.
Am I making sense - I am a real procrastinator so looking at patterns & saving them is much easier than cutting & starting - but I can see time getting away on me with this one.
Will really appreciate your ideas for the stars. If I include strips of friendship stars as "fillers" I don't really want to repeat them, & a Lone Star for example is just too much & I think would dominate the rest.
TIA :?

Here's a site that has a lot of applique and PP'd patterns for farming, etc.

Good Luck!!

What about a simple mariners compass type star?

carpenters star might be good - there is a version of it that is done with half-triangle squares, so there would be no set-in seams.

I'e been looking at a Carpenters Square - the one mentioned above, & will be heading away on a Retreat next week, so am going to have a go with this one & will post photos when I'm back.
