We have a group that meets on Tuesdays every week. Those that can make it come and everyone does there own thing. Sometimes we do work on projects for groups like QOV or Home of the Brave. We make special pillows for breast cancer ladies too. Once a month we meet all day and bring our lunch. This group has had some changes over the years as they have been getting together for many, many years. It's a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. We meet from 1 to 4.

Our church is Chapter 313 of a comfort, praying, caring quilt ministry called "Prayers & Squares International." We meet once a month at the church and sew, press, audition fabrics, layer, pin, etc. Check out the website prayerquilt.org and see if this is something you might also enjoy.

My caution is don't plan or promise more than you can deliver. If you are the organizer then keep it at that and don't fall into having to plan their activities. Keep it social and allow and expect those attending to bring their own projects. If someone attends who wants to learn one of the crafts, then pair that person with someone in the group who will do the training. At first I would not plan for any planned activity or presentation. What I am saying is to control your activities and not take on too much, unless you want to. It is a great and worthwhile project. Go for it. Don't be disappointed if response is less than your expectations. The Scriptures say....."where two or more are gathered together".........etc.

My church also has a chapter of Prayers & Squares. We meet every Tuesday morning. Since I work full time and my mother lives too far to drive in for the meeting we work on quilts at home and then they are finished at the meetings. It is a great program! I do wish that I could attend the meetings though. They have a convention yearly and it is a lot of fun. Last February was in San Diego and was a wonderful weekend experience.

I think it is a great idea. We have tried to get this started at our church but it has never quite gotten off the ground.

We had one very successful time when we did an extreme home makeover with Builders Care and wound up replacing instead of repairing her mobile home as we had hoped because it was filled with black mold and had numerous leaks.
We took it one step further. We are blessed to have an interior designer at our church and we installed customo-made, original design window treatments in every room and bath, replaced her furniture with gently used items ... it was beautiful!

Since that time we have tried meeting 1 Saturday a month to work on whatever we are working on, quilting, sewing, beading, knitting, etc. Sometime attendance is good, sometimes not. We tried walker caddies, there was not enough interest. We also ran into some 'quality' issues where some caddies were turned down due to poor workmanship. How do you tell someone who thinks they don't need your gently offered suggestions and don't see anything wrong with what they are making?

I've thought about pillowcases as they are small, easy to make and hard to mess up. Any other ideas out there?

I think it's a great idea. They started one in our church 2 years ago. That's how I got interested in quilting. We meet once a month and donate our quilts/crafts to missions, shelters, etc.

My church has a group they call Union Needlers that meets weekly. It's an open group so anyone can attend and they do all sorts of needle work includimg quilts and church bannersw. It's a lot of fun and many itmes made are given to charities, hospittals and cancer treatment centers.

I think that's a very generous and creative idea. I'll bet lots of folks would love to join you in that endevour!

I was just getting ready to post the same thing. We have one at our church, and members crochet, knit, sew, and quilt shawls or lap quilts. It's a wonderful ministry!
