Correct me if I'm wrong. Doesn't the neat side of you come from one side of the brain and the creative side of you come from the other side of the brain? If that is so, my brain would explode if I were trying to be neat and creative at the same time.

My stash isn't too large (but what do you consider large?) I store all my fat quarters, which I have 2 clear plastic totes full with the little stringy thingy on them still. Got enough of those to make at least 6 to 8 king size quilts, maybe more. Remenants (sp)I have in a filing cabinet, still with the size & price marked on them. Lots of clear bigger totes with 3 or more yards of fabric. AND a trunk that I have full of fabric. All my fabric in containers have tissue paper with bay leaves wrapped up to keep those little nasty moths away...till I use it up.
Do I still buy fabric? You bet! Do I hide it? Ummmm only till I take it upstairs to my sewing room...lol. Hubby doesn't go there.

Bay leaves, eh? What a great idea. I'll be using that idea.
I put little cedar wood pieces I bought in there. Your idea is even better.

Bonnir Hunter from Quiltville.com has a very detailed system for orgaizing fabrics. Check her out at Quiltville.com/scrapusersystem.shtml. In my dreams I am doing this!

I keep my quilting fabrics in color related baskets. Multicolor prints are in another box (or more).
I don't have to sneak fabrics because my husband thinks that sewing is my therapy, just as his hunting and fishing are his. It works out very well. We don't queston each other's expenditures or keep score.

That is the way I look at it! :-)

I can be neat and creative at the same time, but I am also ADD!I tidy up after every quilting session- tidy, not put it all away, and I return every tool to its place after use, even if I am going to pick it up in a few minutes. This helps keep me on track, as my train of thought is so easily derailed, I might never remember to come back to the quilting if I have to search for things!

A "Nice, Tidy Sewing Room?"

I've heard of such a place, but never saw one.
As for mine, it does get cleaned up, sorta, between
mad sewing fits.

But I can't seem to sew without seeing my stash, which
gives me new ideas, and new things to sew with, etc.

One of these days I'll have a nice, totally clean and neat
sewing room..that is the day one of the kids will come to
visit, with all three dogs!!
