Steady Betty
Does any one know if the fabric used to make the Steady Betty pressing boards is available to purchase by the yard? I've Googled it but so far haven't found anything.

Steady Betty is a thin layer of sponge rubber...guess you could see how thin they sell at Joann's and just wrap around a board...

Here's a link to their product line:
http://www.steadybetty.com/collections/all They don't sell yardage, but they do have a 'big board' cover, 22 X 59 |
It use to be sold as outside upholstery. The ironing side was the foam backed side of the printed vinyl. Hancock Fabric's use to sell it. I found it online but the cost is equal to buying a ready made Steady Betty. The small piece that I found at a yard sale works the same as the Steady Betty. The foam doesn't melt or even gets very hot. I have the large Steady Betty and it is always on my ironing board.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I'm going to order the Big board cover or the ironing board cover kit and cover my own board. Much cheaper. I think I can get 2 or 3 from one piece making the price $15-$20 dollars for each 20x24 inch board. They won't be quite that big because I'll have to wrap it around the back but it should work.

The bought Steady Betty board is two boards together. Both sides are the same so it's like getting two for one. It's not a lightweight board. The foam is attached stretched tight. Mine is years old and looking grungy. I may try experimenting cleaning it. I have a new one on order just in case.
