Is anyone using Steady Betty and is it worth the money?
|
what is it,never heard of it?
|
It's a pressing surface that keeps the object in place without shifting or distorting it. It's sold in different sizes. I first saw it mentioned on this website.

I'd heard from ladies at 2 different LQS's that they are wonderful but the price was more than I wanted to pay.
Sooooo, showed my handy husband and he made me one from wood and table liner material from Hancock's. It was a fraction of the cost and made to the size I want. It works great and was also told they are great for ironing embroidery on cause it doesn't smash the design down. I haven't used it a lot because I've promised myself to FMQ several quilt tops before I start any new projects. I have 1 top done and about 4 to go so it will be a bit before I go back to piecing and using my new toy. |
Table liner makes sense, since it's for hot dishes, et. I didn't see it in Hancock's website.

Yes, I bought it after seeing it on America Sews. I love it. It is a little pricey but I think it's worth it. It really does work. I no longer have the tucks on the seamlines that I used to get before. I don't regret buying it at all.

What size Steady Betty did you buy?
|
It's new to me. I need to check this out.

The table liner I found will not hold the fabric like the Steady Betty. What table liner fabric did you use?
|
I really like Betty. I got it with a 50% off coupon from Joanns.com when they had a free shipping promo.

I have the 16" square Steady Betty. It really is worth it because I no longer have to chase my blocks or really small pieces around with my iron when I go to press them open. You won't have to press as long with your iron and your fabrics irons smoother without resorting to spraying with water or starch all the time. I have asthma so the less I use spray the better. You can spray liquid on it too. When I use fusible webbing with velvet as embellishment the velvet doesn't get crushed. It is double sided. The Steady Betty is the best quilting tool I have bought in a long time.

never heard of it

I have seen these boards at dressmakers/alterations shops, they are table top size. I never thought to ask if home size was available! I ordered the 15 x 24 one this morning online from Joann's for $39.16 total. Here is the 50% off code that is good until July 27th. KCCF178 With the coupon it is the cheapest price I've found for this size.
