I have designed my own stencil. I am looking for Blank stencil material larger than what I can buy at the local craft stores. Does anyone know any site on the web that I can try?

Sorry CatSpring. Wish I did. Have you asked at the local craft store if they come in larger size or maybe they have suggestion where you can go.

I live out in the country and we really don't have much of anything here. I have to drive into Houston, and boy! is that scary!!!I will keep looking on the internet. Thanks!

What are you using the stencils for? Quilting templates, piecing templates?

can you go to Home Depot? or the local hardware store? Sometimes if you look at something from a quilters angle :wink: ...They used to have stencil template blanks....or maybe something else???

Don't know how big you'd want it, or how you want to use it, but you can also make one out of freezer paper and it will iron on. If you need it stiffer, iron two pieces together first.

If you have access to any old xray films..that stuff makes great templet material and is usually FREE.

Oh my goodness! Thanks for all your responses. The stencil is for quilting and for a 16x16 square. Planning on making a king size quilt for a dear friend. I actually drew the pattern I wanted on freezer paper. Since I have to make so many squares, I really wanted something a little stiffer. I will try the sites some of you sent. Again, Thanks!!! :D

Hi...have you tried layering 3 sheets of freezer paper and fuse them together for more body?

If these prior suggestions don't help, contact a drafting supply company. If you have an architect's supply house nearby (or check the web), you should be able to get plenty of things we quilters use: grid paper in larger sizes for drafting blocks; template plastic; accurate plexiglass triangles/squares/rulers; compasses; rulers; you name it! That's where I get my very large sheets of grid paper for accurate drafting of my own blocks/templates. Then I only need to use the template plastic if I can't rotary cut what I need.

I live out in the country also so I have to improvise alot! I use large cereal boxes for stencils...open them up and they are huge!

Here's one more to check out. They sell mylar (template plastic) by the foot in many widths and thicknesses (most quilting stencils are 11 mil thick) so you can pick and choose. http://www.stencilease.com/db/display.asp?input=1989 I also found a good source of info for making your own stencils, in case you haven't done it before. http://home.howstuffworks.com/home-i...o-stencil5.htm Have fun!

I use file folders, sometimes I have to tape them together to make them large enough, they may be floppy at the "fold", but it works. Don't forget to leave some of the points of the stencil in tact.

But, I went to an art supply store when I needed a larger than 8" X 12" piece of "templet" plastic.
