Steve--
I'll be vising your new favorite quilting store on Tampa and Saticoy on Saturday. I'll let you know what I think. (Honest, it won't be like my opinion of the color orange--I've never been in a quilting store I didn't like!) Thanks for the tip on this. |
For me it was a very cool place, though my experience up to that point had been Joanne's which isn't saying much.
|
I remember the first quilt store I was in, up till then it was Hancock's.
WOW was I amazed! |
See, now I was told Hancock's was good but I've never gotten into one since they aren't in my area. This shop is small but has great quality material just made for quilters. The beauty and character of the fabric is different too when comparing it to Joanne's.

I'm not knocking Hancock's by any means but... they have sew much other stuff upholstry, nylon, felt, AND cotton. But if they have a collection of fabric it's usually only 2-3-4 fabrics. But when you go to a quilt store, they have so many shades and blenders and cooridinates, it's like going from eating beans all the time and now you've discovered steak! May not get to eat as much but it sure is more tasty!! (and lasts longer!)

Kathy--
You're right about the food analogy. It's like going into a restaurant with all kinds of delicious things on the menu, but your budget and your appetite will only allow you to choose a few. Solution? Go back often!!! |
Exactly what I mean about this quilting store, they have shades of color, dark to light and everything between!
|
Truth told, I think the stores compliment each other rather well.

OK, so I'm a quilt store junky, I go to lots of stores. This past weekend I went to a store that knocked my socks off. It is in Newport, OR called 'The Joy of Quilitng". To be honest it was not my style of fabric, when I walked in I was hit with bright florals, it was the Hydranga line, they had every piece of the collection. I'm more of a vintage, non-floral person. I think my jaw actually dropped, it was so beautiful in there, it was an old house and room-to-room only got better. I love being struck like that. Yes I did buy some fabric, but sadly not the florals.

Enjoyed my visit to "your" quilting store. They had lots of choices, and the lady was really nice.
Found another store in that area you might want to visit--even more stuff! Candy's Quilt Works 8917 Reseda Blvd. Northridge, CA91324 Happy hunting! |
