The last time I bought any fabric was at a thrift shop for 50 cents a yard. ... just a few months ago. It's hard to find there because people buy it so fast. Anyway, I have enough stash to keep me busy for the next 40 years. And, I'm 80 now, so I think I'll be ok until I turn 120. :)

what irritates me about "that store" is that the coupon is always for fabric not on sale--and everything that I want is on sale!

I'm finding that more quilters are making smaller quilts too--wallhangings, table toppers, lap quilts--both because they can quilt on their domestic machine and save LA costs and because of fabric costs-besides, how many bed quilts can you even store!?

Tomorrow morning I am going back to the same Estate Sale that I was at last week. They have boxes and boxes more of fabric to bring out. They had about 6 boxes and totes out last week.

We spent the winter in Arizona. Upon returning to British Columbia I went into my local quilt store and found that fabric that I had bought in the spring at about $22.00 a metre on sale from $26 or 29 was now $39. That's why I am going back to the Estate sale, I paid about 50 cents a yard/metre and bought a bunch of Christmas as well as other pretties and one nice big piece for a backing

I previously bought a lot of fabric on-line at certain stores that was during a "buy the last of it" sale. Prices were discounted and usually a yard or less was there. Since I usually make scrap quilts this worked for me.....it was the shipping cost that gouged my wallet. Now I no longer buy fabric unless I know for sure I'm going to use it that week.
Still I have so much that I need to sell off some of it on Facebook or E-Bay. Quilting can be an expensive hobby!!

I have so much fabric that fills my basement. I told my kids I'm set for retirement. Now into retirement, I only buy what's needed to finish a project. But, my son still tells me he is going to put a dump truck up to the window.

Exactly why I don't shop this store. I refuse to play their games. Besides I think most of their fabric is poor quality. I will stick with real quilt shops, not junk shops. IMHO

How I love going to quilt shops with my friends! It makes me sad to see how expensive it has become because I feel we quilters are sort of a dying breed. Most young people can't afford such a pricy hobby. Personally the first area I shop is the sale section and I have a couple of places I find great bargains on line. Hancock of Paducah is a great place to check out.

Hey, Kathy M! Men just don't "get it" do they. DH threatens to take all my fabric out to the driveway and burn it! I told him he would be sorry because I would haunt him forever if he did that.

I don't know about the younger quilters not being able to afford to quilt. My DD, married and a mom of two, and her friends spend more on purses and sunglasses then I do in several fabric shopping trips. I don't shop at JoAnn Store for fabric even though there is one close by. I shop local and online quilt shops sales. Also I go to Marshall's several times a year.

If my DH said he would burn my fabric then I'd say go ahead. It will be fun to replace all of it with brand new fabric, a new machine to sew the brand new fabric, and a new house to put it in and a new DH make a quilt for as I handed him the matches.

The prices are a sign of more things to come. It’s all about the times we are currently living in. It’s really bad in the grocery store!
