still looking at the 8900 Janome?
I am still looking at the Janome 8900, went to the dealer and she had one with the red front I tried it and it sewed great... I forgot to ask her what the difference is between the red front and the gray front one, the price is different the red one that she called a limited edition was 2999.00 where the gray one was 3999.00...I will go back on Monday and play so more and ask her them..
Boy that is a lot of money but I guess you get what you pay for... Maybe someone would know what the difference is between the machines..Thanks This is driving me crazy all this machine shopping..LOL |
The red face plate was a special edition and is discontinued. They might just want to get it gone to make room for new products.
|
Don't let it drive you crazy! Instead enjoy the shopping, and all the options available to you! Take your time with your decision, because it's a lot of money, you'll live with it for a long time, and you want to be happy with your choice. Think of all the creativity it will unleash in you!

Are you sure they are both 8900's? My 7700 had the red front and my 8900 has the gray front. Biggest advantages to the 8900 over the 7700 are the snap off feet for accu feed feet and the snap off throat plate.
|
That's what I was thinking. I didn't think the 8900 had a red front. I've seen the 7700 with the red front.
|
my 7700 also has a red front. i wonder if the red fronted one isn't 7700.
|
Yes it is a 7700 limited edition that has been discontinued. I would get the 8900 or I picked the 8200 which is the same machine but with fewer decorative stitches. I don't use those fancy stitches and the machine was much cheaper. I got mine at a quilt show for the one that was being demonstrated for only $1999 with same warranty. When I picked it up he had only used the machine for less than 1 hour. Great deal for me.

I agree with JustabitCrazy. Make sure that the one you have been sewing on is what you thought it was. That is a lot of money and you don't want to make a mistake.

"Boy that is a lot of money but I guess you get what you pay for... "
I posted on your other thread too, but this statement is so true. I was just telling my SIL last night, it's amazing the difference in sewing on a $500 machine (which I had-the Janome 2030 DC) and the 8900 which retails for $4K. I got mine for half that; maybe you can negotiate with your dealer for the red one. My understanding from the dealer that I got mine from is that they bought a bunch of the red limited edition, and there discounting them to move them out and onto the next thing. They are EXACTLY the same machine. |
I have a grey-faced 8900 and love it. I purchased it a year ago from TOPS in Sarasota, FL for $2250.00. So they can be had for less. The "local" (4 hours away) Texas dealer wouldn't go below $2800.00. And as others have said, the 8200 is very similar but with fewer features.

Ok Ladies just got back from the Janome dealer which is 65 miles away but I guess it is worth going that far..It is most back road so no traffic which is a good thing
here is the deal and I am having a hard time getting my mind around this.. JustAbitCrazy and Lucio and all the ladies, she told me that the one with the red front and black bed but with a silver face plate was a limited edition and they are not making then any more but she had two in a box and the floor model but they are the very same as the 8900 with the gray plate.. the two machines both 8900 sat side by side and the red face was the only thing that was different from the 8900 with the gray face plate. The big thing was the price..the red one was 2999.00 and the gray 8900 was 3999.00.. To me this is crazy a 1000.00 difference is a lot of money for the same machine with a different color face plate.. I just am having a hard time getting this around in my mind, why they would sell it for that much of a difference in the price just because of the color.. and yes it was the 8900 this I checked what it said on the front of the machine..if anyone know anything about this I would really love to hear .. Thanks everyone , tomorrow I will go and check out the Brother V series model VQ2400 it is almost the same as the Janome 8900 and the price is 3699.00 |
For my money, then, I'd surely get the red one. I think you'll LOVE that machine. Everyone who has one loves it. If I didn't have a longarm, and needed to fmq, that's the one I'd want.

I'm really surprised that your dealer is holding fast to those quoted prices. Is that the only Janome dealer for hundreds of miles? Buying a sewing machine is just like buying a car---The dealers all seem to be cut from the same haggling cloth. What else is she willing to throw in to sweeten the deal? Patrice recommends the additional AccuFeed 1/4 foot and the AccuFeed open toe foot. How many free lessons? Usually, if they let you walk out the door, you've heard their lowest price. Have you given her any indication that many think that her prices should be negotiated downward? Many find this process very uncomfortable but this is a major item. Do you have state tax which could add quite a bit to the cost of this machine? Our local Janome dealer sells for MSRP minus 30% and throws in extras.
