Stitch Length
What stitch do you use for piecing quilts? If I do not backstitch, I sometimes have a problem with the stitches coming loose. And i do not like backstitching.

I use the default setting on my machine. You shouldn't have to back stitch; when you sew the blocks together and quilt, it won't come apart.
Most of the time I just use the standard setting.
It does help to shorten the stitch length a little. My machine is 2.5 and I shorten to 2.0. I do not backstitch since you sew over your seams when piecing. If you paper piece you do need to shorten the stitch length. |
I use 1.8 stitch length and usually don't backstitch.
I use my default setting which is 2.2. When I paper piece I will decrease it to 1.8 or 2.0
If it is a project that backstitching would be a major pain... I use 2.0 or sometimes as low as 1.5 ( but use a smaller needle when this small). Most of the time I use 2.5 and backstitch.
I usually set my length at 1.5 and don't backstitch piecing. I do backstitch any topstitching.
I use a smaller stitch, don't want any stitches to come out I think about 1.8 or 1.50, usually a pain to unsew. I back stitch if it is a problem with stitches coming out. I back stitch when starting and stopping quilting.
I use the default stitch size...I never backstitch since it will be joined to other blocks or sashing
I never backstitch - have never had anything come apart, and I use the default of 2 mm. For paper piecing I would reduce that a bit (but I don't pp).
