Which Stores to Visit

My husband and I will be visiting in the Boston area in Oct/Nov. When he has finished his work we will also be travelling around up in the north east to see the autumn colours and trees. What my husband doesn't know is that I will be arranging the itinerary to include as many fabric shops as I can manage to find, or that the 'ladies of the board' can advise me on. I already have the address for Keepsake quilting but would be grateful to know of other establishments you could recommend.
As you probably know, fabric prices in Australia are astronomical compared to yours and I will be bringing an extra suitcase to fill to bring home
Thanks to everyone on this board for all your help, tutorials, pictures, advice, ideas, company, fun and laughs.
You make my day!!

If you are going to Cape Cod, there are two fabulous shops in Hyannis. And there's a great one in North Attleboro too.

I happened into a store in Andover, NH (very cute!) and found info about NH Shop Hops. Here's a link:

Come visit me! I work in a shop in Montpelier, Vermont. A Quilter's Garden is the name. We also have a list of shops at http://www.vermontshophop.com/directions.htm.

Quilted Threads, Henniker, NH. Was featured in the 2011 Spring issue of Quilt Sampler. Totally awesome shop that now has sales online as well.

The Quilting Corner, Tilton, NH. On your way to Keepsake stop by this shop in a converted mill.

Pickering Farm, Richmond, NH. An exceptional shop that specializes in reproduction fabrics. The farm itself dates back to 1790.

Whatever shops you visit, have a great visit to MA and the northeast.

Ghost is so correct - they would be my first recomendations. But, depending on how far up in NE you are going... or willing to go (lol) , I would add Keepsake Quilting (a true overload in the quilting experience)

Or even Kathies Quilt Shop in Sanford Maine - and adorable well equipted store in an old NE home. Highlighted in Quilt Sampler Mag this year.

Thanks to all the ladies with their suggestions. Google Earth and I have spent a little bit of time and managed to slot all of these towns into the road trip. Lets hope it all works out. I certainly hope to get to the Quilter's Garden to meet Paulswalia. Keep an eye out in October. Thanks again.

I don't have a suggestion but I will keep this thread for the next time I get to visit my sister in NH. We did visit one shop the last time I was there but I made her take me to the Norman Rockwell home instead of making a real shop hop.
Have a wonderful trip and keep us posted on your visit and acquisitions.

In Boxborough, Mass is a darling little shop called the Quilted Crow. It's about an hour west of Boston.

Wherever you go, I'm sure you will enjoy your visit. Don't forget to come back and tell us all about it!

http://www.cambridgequilts.com - lovely shop in Cambridge

Quilted Threads in Henniker, that others have recommended, is an awesome shop, nice people, fabulous fabric collection, expensive so bring your charge card. Good sale fabric section too.

Another NH shop I really like is Gail Peck's Quilters Workshop in Newport NH. Really nice and helpful people and Gail has a large selection of lovely fabrics, good prices. If you're there on a Wednesday and most Thursday mornings and go to the sale room, I'll be sitting at my sewing machine working away.

I live in the area and would be happy to give you more information if you PM me what types of fabrics you like/are looking for. I'd also be happy to meet you and take you on a mini shop hop if I'm free when you are in town. Also, during that time of year there are some great small quilt shows to go to.
