Does it matter how to store batting? I've read here to not store fabric in clear plastic bins because sunlight can fade colors, so does it matter about batting?

I don't think so. Especially if the batting is white, sunlight shouldn't affect it. Haven't used dark battings, so not as sure about those.

Sunlight fades the dyes used in fabrics. Batting, as far as I know, isn't dyed.

Mine is stacked against a wall in my bedroom and seems to be doing fine.

whatever came in plastic wrapping is still in it and whatever came in rolls has a sheet thrown over it for dust. i don't bother it and it doesn't bother me. win-win.

Mine is in the huge box it came in, under my sewing table. The legs of the table hold the flaps closed so that the cats can't play in there.

mine is in the closet.

OK then, I can take one thing off my worry list!

my roll of batting hangs from the ceiling on a closet rod. Its out of the way and handy to just pull off what I need.

I have a roll still in the box unopened and a 1/2 roll laying on the floor. Little girl cat thinks it's her new bed.
I just leave it where it is, doesn't bother me

Whinnytoo how clever!! I live in a big old farmhouse (stone foundation in someplaces). Anyway mice find ways to get in and my sewing room is no cats allowed. The little buggers got into the closet in my sewing room and had a field day with a bolt of warm and natural I had stored in there  Some little varment has a nice warm nest somewhere. They left the prepackaged stuff alone. Maybe they don't like plastic and will only go through it when after food.

I store left over pieces in a large bag with a zipper that bedding came in.

My bolt stands in a corner.

craftybear 01-31-2010 04:39 PM

cool way to store your batting, did you think of that?

brushandthimble 01-31-2010 04:48 PM

I honestly don't remember.
I also piece batting, I will pin a sticky note to it with the size, so I don't have to keep measureing everytime I need a piece. I check my notes and if nothing is large enough I cut a new piece. works great for baby quilts.
