Hi. I make lots and lots of small infant and crib size quilts, and usually try to make a long piece of binding, to have ready when working with the same colors. I have found paper towel tubes work well to roll the pressed binding on, securing it with a pin, until I am ready to cut off the length I need. Keeps it nice and neat. Anyone have similiar tricks?

I also use this to keep bias stems while I hand quilt. Keeps them pressed and neat. :-D

Two thoughts:
I hang them on my design wall, I can easily see what I have and it looks good.
My sister asked, why not try the "tube" quilt pattern with left over bindings.
I have so many, I just may save them for the tube quilt.

Oh, meant to mention on another discussion.I had several pieces of flannel binding leftover, and odds and ends of squares of prints. I sewed the squares into a lap robe and sewed the different bindings together for that project. Turned out pretty. I am usually so intent on everything matching, it was a new look for me.

I cut toilet paper rolls in half so that they're just a little wider than my binding. I roll the binding onto them and hang them on a peg board behind me until I'm ready to use the binding. Since the peg is higher and at a right angle to my back I don't even take the roll off the peg. It goes over my right shoulder and onto the quilt straight from the wall. I do the same thing with up to 6" borders. It keeps them straight and untangled. It takes a little more time to wind them onto the roll but I'd rather do that than have to stop and untwist or straighten out every few feet when I'm trying to sew them on.

When doing a scrappy, Civil War, or Feed Sack Repro quilt I like to use varying lengths of all the different fabrics in the quilt for my bindings.

I wrap them on toilet paper rolls.
