miholmes posted a question about storing rolls of batting. Here's how I do mine. The hook is a Rubbermaid ladder hook, made to go on the garage organizer rails. I don't need the rails, but if you have the wall space, you can attach the rail to the wall. This works great - just pull off what you need. Hope this helps!

I should also mention that it holds the roll at an angle to the wall, keeping it snug. That helps keep the roll from spinning and unrolling itself. It is NOT fun to re-roll 25 yards of batting!!

Clever
If I came home with a roll of batting I think my son would throw me out of the house  LOL |
Very inventive idea.....thanks for sharing.
|
Good idea. Though I'd have to rig something inside my house. It would get nasty hanging in my garage.
|
That's cool, Shelley! Now I'm trying to figure out where I've got an extra 5 ft of wall to do this on! :D
|
Great way to store your batting!!!
|
Great idea.
|
That's a great idea. :-)
I have 2 rolls that are still stored in the original boxes they were shipped in. |
Great idea! As soon as I get my space back I will be figuring out how to do that!
|
Thank you so much for sharing your idea! I pretty much have mine standing on the floor in my closet. It is a pain to have to drag it out everytime I need to cut a few yards. I'll have to try your idea and see how it works. :)
|
Great tip
|
I love you batting storage tip. That is great. I will have to see if my husband can do the same for me in the basement. That would certainly keep the dogs from getting on it.

Great idea

Love this idea  Thanks for sharing it :D:D:D
|
I wonder if the hanging rack in the spare closet is far enough from the wall to do this.

My DH and I both quilt, so we buy rolls of batting. We just leave it in the box, lay it on it's side under the quilting frame, cut a slit in the box and pull out the batting. It's not too heavy to pull it and have the roll turning inside the box. Then we measure from the outer edge to the edge of the slit in the box, then cut it off and let the end fall back into the box. Keeps it clean and handy.
|
Great if you have space. Thanks for shaaraing

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
EXACTLY what I was looking for! :) |
That's a wonderful idea. I bet it works great.

awesome, idea thanks for sharing

I spend a little time to cut the whole roll of batting to the sizes that you usually work with - twin, queen, etc. Then I store it individually wrapped, stacked in a safe, dry place. Usually top shelf of clothes closet. The batting is easily pieced in case you need a bit more .
|
I don't have room for it to hang horizonal but vertical would work. Your idea has given me an idea of how to store mine vertical and be able to roll it out. Now I'm keeping it in the original box and it is work to get to it and cut it. Thanks

I'd love to see some pictures of your studio!

I wish I had the money for the batting, that would solve a lot of my problems. God bless. Penny
|
I know how you feel Penny! It just plain sucks to be poor, LOL. Especially when times used to be better and now in our *golden* years and know it's not likely to get any better!

Great idea!! This board is sew very helpful with all the crafty suggestions to use!!

OK -- now for a REALLY DUMB question. I've never purchased batting "by the yard." I know I've seen it at JoAnn's, but I've never stopped to really look at it. Here's the question: what widths does it come in? Is it folded on the roll? From looking at the picture, it seems that it is folded. I could probably find the answers to these questions but it's more fun reading all of your answers.

The roll of warm and natural that I have is a single roll. It is not folded on the roll. If I had room I would get more rolls of different kinds like someone else has on here. What a wonderful thing that would be.

For a 70x94 quilt, here's how much would be needed (I need at least 8" extra length and width): 93" wide batting would need 102" (2.83 yd) 122" wide batting would need 78" (2.43 yd) It's almost a 1/2 yard less by buying the wider width. And on larger quilts, there's no need to join pieces. Clear as mud?? |
