Storm at Sea - Update
3 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys,
After my initial thread... Where I think paper piecing seemed to be the favoutite way to go, I did buy a sizzix die to make a triangle in a square and I made a block using this method.... I also made a block using the paper piecing method....... I think I am going the paper piecing way.... I don't like the join in the diamond... What do you think???? The first picture ure is using the sizzix die, the secon is the paper pieced and the last is the two together. Looking pretty accurate. Have fun with the rest of the blocks (if more to be made).
I LOVE the fabric you're using....and would have to say that i like the PP method better...It just "flows" better it think. The pieced diamonds kind of halt your eye. Just my opinion.....either way you are going to have a gorgeous quilt.

i can't tell much of a difference... so use the one you like to do better
looks to me the PP makes the points perfect. Sounds like a winner to me! Have fun!
Your paper pieced blocks looks perfect.
I agree......Your paper pieced will be more accurate and with all the points no doubt be easier in the long run. Be sure to post a picture when you are finished.
I like the pp'd one better. The extra seam does seem to stand out on the other one.
Storm at Sea is on my quilt bucket list and I will do it in PP'ing..... because it just feels so much sharper (I did a Hunter's Star with pp'ing too and it works so well to get the points to match so easily!) |
I want to make this too. Where can I find a PP ing pattern?
I really love your fabrics. I like the pp block. I usually use the Carol Doaks method of pping. With the batiks you are getting, this is goung to be a stunning quilt. Remember, pics, pics, pics please. :)
I like the PP one better, mostly b/c of the clean diamond w/o a piecing line.
Both are lovely!
I am in total agreement. The piecing/seam in the diamond is noticable....
Very nice. Can't wait to see the finished one.
This quilt is on my bucket list. I played with folding the fabric and cutting a solid diamond from the Triangle in a square die instead of cutting the triangle and sewing together. I drew a line 1/4 inch inside the straight edge of the triangle and placed my fold there. I have not yet constructed that block with that. Unfortunately doing it this way probably makes it just as time consuming as paper piecing (or maybe more).
I don't like the seam in the middle of the diamond. The PPis much nicer.

I like the pping best also. And the difference of pressing the white to the darker fabric side makes it stand out. Anxious for the finale!

I agree with the PP choice.
Yes, I, too, like the PP block best. It looks nice and crisp.
paper piecing makes the block look better but they both look great.
