Straight pins recommendation
Can anyone recommend a good extra fine long pin for piecing? There are so many pins out there. thanks so much!

I like to use long silk pins. I don't have a brand that I buy but silk pins are very fine and leave no holes in the material. They also have glass heads so no melting if you press them with a hot iron.

me too- glass head silk pins- can be found in 3 or 4 different lengths.
clotildes, nancy's notions, keepsake quilting plus i'm sure lots of other sources. |
My favorite is Dritz #16980 Extra Fine Glass Head Pins - size 22. They are 1 3/8" long with a .5mm shaft. Of all my pins I'll choose this one first.

I like the Clover Quilting pins, they come in several lengths, I think mine are 1 1/4 inches, have glass heads and have a very thin shaft, so slides in and out of fabric.

My favorite are the flowerhead pins. They glide through the fabric like butter and are easy for me to use with my arthritis. The other thing I like is they are so tiny around that they don't distort the fabric while pinning to assemble intricate quilt designs.

I also like the flowerhead pins, they're smooth. I have a lot of pins that I hate, they feel rough when they go through the fabric. I often wonder if they're not nickel-plated, but they're hand-me-downs from my mom, so I have no way of knowing.
