Strangest Dream - Really!

Last night I had a dream on how to make and quilt a wine tote or any other type of tote. So - today as soon as I got dressed, down to my room to figure out if the directions in my dream really would work. To my amazement they did and now I have a tote large enough to use as a shoe bag this winter.I've never seen a pattern using these directions so I'm really amazed. Think there is a quilting dream fairy?

Stitchnripper 01-01-2013 06:45 PM

That is pretty neat!

mighty 01-01-2013 07:41 PM

That is cool!!!

sewingsuz 01-01-2013 07:43 PM

Real cool . show us a picture please

wishfulthinking 01-01-2013 07:47 PM

So show us a picture. What a great experience! I've never dreamed a quilt pattern, but I have figured out the answer to some quilting problems in my sleep lately and that was great.

Peckish 01-01-2013 08:51 PM

I love it when that happens to me! I've taken to keeping pencil & paper at my bedside, so I can scribble notes and sketches before I forget (or someone interrupts me).

Of course there's a quilting fairy! Haven't you noticed how a set of windows, tiled floors, and new patterns just seem to pop up in the landscape that surrounds you? I never saw any of that until I started quilting - now I see it everywhere. Getting a tutorial in your dreams is awesome! I get a lot of problems solved when I'm just falling to sleep or just waking up. I just love when that happens. I would love to see a picture of your dreamy creation :-)

Our dreams come from our sub conscious mind, which is a most miraculous tool. It makes our heart beat, our lungs breathe, our stomach digest, our muscle react, all without any conscious mind input from us. It is the best problem solver ever!

I just love my dreams, they take me to some amazing places and tell me wonderful stories that keep me endlessly entertained.

Wise inventors have learned to remember and review their dreams that often help them invent things, just as Cagey did. You can train yourself to remember your dreams - we ALL have them - and enjoy this special gift of the Creator yourself!

I can't wait to see pictures of Cagey's "dream" bag!

I sew in my dreams as well...I think that is when you know for sure you are hooked on quilting. Can't wait to see the pic!

barny 01-02-2013 11:43 AM

I don't have dreams like that. My dreams are terrible and hard to figure out. I'm always working or doing something weird.

busy fingers 01-02-2013 01:10 PM

I am never lucky enough to dream about instructions. If I am thinking about a quilt I usually wake up around 2 am and then cannot get it out of mind and cannot return to sleep. This happens for a couple of nights. Very annoying and tiring.

My Mom told me that was how she taught herself how to crochet and she used to do those lacy looking pineapple ones that were under the lamps, so I sure do believe you can!

pattypurple 01-02-2013 05:43 PM

I have, often, had dreams that solved a design problem I was having on a purse I was working on. The brain is truly a wonder. Congratulations on your revelation.

MaryKatherine 01-03-2013 04:40 AM

That happens to me more than I care to admit. I go to sleep with a design problem and wake up with the solution in its entirety. Yeah Quilt Faeries.

I am so happy to know there are others who sew in their dreams After telling my DH about my dreams years ago and he gave me the 'get the butterfly net' look I've kept silent

justflyingin 01-03-2013 05:02 AM

I've been told that we dream about what we've been thinking about during the days. It is interesting how sometimes things get all mixed up in our dreams whereas people who, in real life who don't know each other, interact, and sometimes things like this happen.

So happy for you inspiration idea!

ArtsyOne 01-03-2013 05:21 AM

Some of my biggest quilting problems have been solved in my dreams - sure makes for a better night's sleep than a nightmare!

kyquiltlover1942 01-03-2013 06:50 AM

This is how I came up with the idea of getting a handprint from all my Mother's decendents for a quilt for her 90th birthday. Turned out great.

MissSongbird 01-03-2013 06:53 AM

That's awesome! I wish I had some dreams like that and then maybe I would be more productive.

This is what happens to me. Some of my weird dreams I remember for years and years, especially the ones that made my heart race because of something that was going on in the dream.

I get my quilting inspriation when I'm doing other things: washing dishes, working in the garden, mowing lawn, cleaning house, etc. And now I get a lot of inspiration from people on this board: the pictures they post and the links they show. I think it is wonderful. I'll never make half the quilts that are on my bucket list, but I'm having fun trying.

sewnsewer2 01-03-2013 08:07 AM

LOL, you're hooked when you dream of sewing/quilting.

fayeberry 01-03-2013 08:10 AM

Never had a sewing dream, but am a BIG believer in the power and wisdom of our unconscious self. Married my husband based on a dream (and avoided 2 other earlier marriages based on dreams also). My unconscious was definitely right on about DH and it will soon be 34 years. He's a keeper!

DOTTYMO 01-03-2013 08:58 AM

I mustn't think all day about anything as if I dream I don't usually recall them these days. When I was working I came up with some excellent ideas for school this way.
Now adays I'm so laid back I'm almost horizontal , it is my way of coping the the stress from my job and nerves break down or tablets.
wish I did dream more must make a mental effort to go asleep thinking about a project.

quiltingeileen 01-03-2013 09:41 AM

Wow. Love all your stories. Just goes to show us God really believes quilts are blankets of love!

What a wonderful story. I'd love to hear more. Thanks

Sometimes I get the words for my inspirational writings just as I am 'drifting off to sleep'

He sends me patterns and ideas for quilts for strangers at times...I really cant explain it, but I have to say that at the end of it those quilts end up being such a personal blessing to both myself and the person I quilt them for. I have actually done a true image of a woman's daughter at one point...a complete stranger...that had a message for her straight from above. A very spiritual experience sent from above for a stranger. And the strangest thing about it is that I don't actually remember the dream...all I know is that the plan is all in place for what I am about to do and I wake up with an immense desire to just get to work on it. So yes, I really do believe that our dreams can be extraordinarily special at times!

Auntie Em 01-03-2013 05:53 PM

Would love to see the tote!! Maybe with a tute!!!

jeanharville 01-03-2013 06:29 PM

Jan, you are so right about dreams. I look forward to mine every night (for the entertainment). When I was in calculus, I would go to sleep with a problem on my mind, then sometimes I would dream the solution steps. It really is amazing how it works. I wish I could dream how to become rich :>)

nstitches4u 01-03-2013 07:23 PM

Where is the picture of your tote? Would love to see it.

katesnanna 01-04-2013 02:31 AM

Could we please see your tote?

Sandygirl 01-04-2013 04:33 AM

I totally believe in the power of the saying..." Sleep on it". When i am grappling with any problem or challenge i just have to put it away mentally and often in the night, my brain dreams up a solution or a new peace about it. Just have to be open to the power of our amazing brain.

I love dreams, esp the ones that include my late parents and favorite, late relatives. Very comforting to experience them once again. Even my past pets show up. Revisits to my childhood home, torn down years ago. I could go on.

A couple of weeks after my mom passed; after a gut wrenching last year in the nursing home, i had one of my dreams in which I am soaring above the ground. I look down and see an older woman in an old fashioned floral shirtwaist dress rollerskating on the sidewalk. She looks up at me and smiles at me sweetly. The face smiling back at me was my mothers' moms face. BUT, i just knew that the real person smiling up at me was my mom. She smiles and then continues her journey on down the sidewalk. I still take comfort in this dream that my mom is at peace and she wanted me to know it.

By the way, my grandmother passed away when I was 4 years old. I have no memories of her. Now, i need to wipe my eyes.

Dreams are powerful.
Sandy
