Looking for the strata quilt pattern that I thought would be in the Fons & Porter sept/oct magazine but it is not there. Do not want to buy the kit from lady fingers sewing studio as I thought it was too much money. Anyone have any idea the size of the block and the sizes of the strips. I have an idea on how it is contructed but just need some other info or a pattern that is similar. I can buy the material I think alot cheaper online. Any suggestions?

I wrote down the info when I saw the show since I loved the pattern. It is supposed to be in the F&P Love of Quilting Easy Quilts-Scrap Quilts which should be on the shelves in Sept. I keep looking to see if anyone has it sooner but haven't found it yet. Let us know if you find it.

The blocks will be ~8.5" finished.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-103507-1.htm

You'll have around 24 (or 28) different fabrics.
They probably cut a 1/3-1/2 yard of each fabric.
That's easily $75+.

Unless you're making it from stash, you're not going to be able to do it for much less $$ when you account for time, etc.
And they've done all the work by choosing the gradations. .

Plus the cost of the pattern (or the magazine), unless you've figured that out already.

You'd have enough extra for the binding and you can use the leftovers on the back.

You could try to make it from some of the Benartex Gradiation fabrics (and possibly get away with less fabric):
http://www.bryerpatch.com/cgi-bin/St...4.s0&lastmenu=

Or some similarly ombre striped fabric.

Call them and ask how much of each fabric is included.
They sell the dimples for $8/yard.
Easy enough to figure out how they do their pricing.

thank you ever so much. the kit is 109. so maybe it is worth buying the kit and not have to figure everything out. I 'll thinkit over.

thanks . I will keep my eye out for it and try to find it online as well.

Make sure the pattern is in the kit, if you need that, and it is just not a fabric kit. Friend on another forum bought a F&P Kit, no pattern only fabric, when she called them back for the pattern, was told that she had to buy the book the pattern was in.. fortunately another member had the book so she was able to get the pattern.. I have noticed here at the LQS, lots of kits do not include the pattern now, only the fabric..

This is an old tv episode. It has been on our PBS several times. Are you sure it is still coming in a magazine? Hope so.

You could try Sewing with Nancy's "Versatile Ombre Quilting Part 1" which you can find at http://video.wpt2.org/video/1530329782/. I think the second quilt on that show uses four ombre fabrics. She is pretty detailed in the video, but she also sells detailed printed information.

Similar to this is tube quilting or "Summer in the Park", which you can find at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5WgTyqB8Pc.

I did a small Summer in the Park and enjoyed it. I may also try one of Nancy's Ombre quilts.

Here is a tutorial from here. It's called another name but it is the same thing.

I watched Nancy's show about ombre quilting and loved it. I have an idea for a small quilt for a friend but have not found the fabric yet. I am looking for a wintery darker gray to almost white . Any ideas of where I might find it? I am also looking for ashe trees or something similar with light bark.

Look at the link upthread to the BryerPatch. Perhaps #1 (Gradations 1) or #14 (Gradations 2) would work for your project.

Also, the Serenity ombre fabrics are GORGEOUS, but I don't know if the white will be white enough for your project.

It's sold out at Nancy's Notions but I'm posting it so you can see that she has a much better picture of the fabric:
http://www.nancysnotions.com/product...mbre+fabric.do

It is available on eBay (and other stores) with the picture everyone else is using:

Not a bad price per yard. Probably worth it to buy it in all the other colors as well to justify the shipping.

Thanks MTS for the info. I am hoping to find one with a little more white. I will keeping looking.

I posted a long reply on a posting on the buy/sell section. I just now noticed that your original post was from a long time ago. You may want to look at it. I need to look more carefully at dates

You may also want to check out http://www.cottonclub.com/. They seem to have a large selection of ombre fabric.

the issue of Fons and Porter's Scrap quilts is on the newsstand now. I'm waiting to use a coupon at Joann's (unless it's their usual 10% off for magazines.)
