Stretch and Sew pattern tracing fabric.
 

Does anyone remember the thin, nonwoven fabric that was used to trace the Stretch and Sew patterns? I think it was called "Do Sew", but that doesn't bring up anything on a Google search.

Can I use this as a foundation for making a string quilt? I have two rolls of it. I realize I could make a test block, but thought I would ask if anyone has any experience with it first.

Never heard of it. If it doesn't add bulk to your block, I don't see any reason to not use it.

Try it on a sample block. I tried Googling and couldn't find anything.

The last time I ordered Do Sew, was a year ago and I got it from Annie's. I use it for appliqué, and the labels I make for quilts and I appliqué them on to the back of my quilts.

For making patterns, the closest I found is a product from Pellon:

Yes you can. It is basically a interfacing. When I first started quilting, they were using DoSew for the back of applique pieces. They put fabric and dosew together, sewed around the shape, cut a slit, turned inside out. I think it was before the bumpy, iron on interfacing that EB uses in her shows. It is not iron on. It was the same technique, gave the look of hand turned edges.

Wow...talk about a memory jog....i worked for Stretch n Sew back in the mid 70's.

It is basically just a heavier polyester interfacing - You might want to try a block tho - cuz it could give you a finished stiffness that you don't quite like....or you may think it's great.

Would that interfacing you tear off be suitable it is very thin and you can leave it or remove as you wish.

Ah, yes, I remember it well. But sorry, no help with the question about the foundation use.

Pellon has a grided interfacing line. I saw some at Joanne's.

Otherwise there is also Swedish tracing paper available at some store, more like sewing stores, and online.

Boy, do I remember--my Mom took many classes, and had so much trouble with them. She has passed away, but you brought back many memories. Thanks For awhile, that's all she talked about--the trouble matching things. Sorry, I don't remember the backing.
