Strip pieced Dresden ruler
Is there an American version of this ruler? I want to make not only a strip-pieced Dresden, but also set it on a 45 degree angle. I'm going to be making a ribbon quilt for a friend, and I think that could be cool. This ruler does both, but I'm not really finding an American equivalent. (I did check the UK Amazon site to see if I could order this one. I didn't find it there.) Ideas?

I think Jenny Doan from the Missouri Star Quilt co. did a video on a Dresden plate with segments.

This ruler comes free with a current magazine which is about £6. I would happily pick one up and post it to you but I think the cost of postage would be about the same as the magazine itself

That's a pretty cool ruler and set of ideas! You could take an ordinary fan template and put your own vertical centre line, one inch horizontal lines, and add the diagonal ones too if you wanted to make those designs.

You could use this ruler by not going all the way to the point. If you have never used the Bloc-Loc rulers, they have a groove where the seams are that you lock in against the seam line and get good accurate cuts. I have several of their specialty rulers and use them a lot. |
Ginaky, I have a few Bloc Loc rulers that I use quite often and love them however, the one you posted shows a price of $65. I think I like Selm’s Amazon option better. LOL

You can do all the design ideas shown on the Today's Quilter site using the ruler from Amazon or Joannes. The last one with the diagonals would be a little trickier because the Amazon/Joannes doesn't have the diagonals marked on it. But you could mark your own diagonals by placing the wedge ruler on top of one of your straight rulers that has 45 degree diagonals and marking the line on the wedge with a piece of colored tape. Then just use your wedge ruler and align that taped line on your strip set like the Today's Quilter tutorial shows. This all makes sense to me but I hope I explained it well enough.

If you know the measurements or dimensions of the ruler, you could cut one out of template plastic. (I hope!)

I would use a regular dresden ruler which many of us have and strip piece fabric and cut it out. If you wanted to make sure you get it along the correct line draw a line on your ruler or use a piece of painter's tape on your ruler. You wouldn't need a special ruler to do this method.

I printed out the pics showing the ruler at different angles on the fabric strips. i can do that with the one I have. although i just bought the 10 inch dresden ruler from Missouri quilts for $1.65 today. Daily deal.

I do not understand why you would need a special ruler. I have the inexpensive edition and I get the effects I want by sewing strips together and putting a piece of painter's tape on the ruler for the angle I want to use.

I got my email on my ruler purchase and they put $1.95. I could have sworn it was $1.65!! oh well.
