I just completed the blocks for my first ever strip quilt. I have looked at so many beautiful strip quilts on this board and am wondering if if you have any new ones. I would love to see more pics and ideas.

I have a laundry basket full of strips and am going to see how many quilt blocks I can get from that one basketful. Anyone like to guess!

here are a couple strippies I've been working on.

The multicolor blocks were cut with the x-block ruler.

I have this book that I am selling:
Stippin’ Along; Applique Quilts on a Roll by Donna Kindsey & Linda Rocamontes; Design Originals; 2008, 66p. Moda's Jelly Roll bundles have hit the quilting world by story, but many of my customers have asked for instructions for making quilts with these rolls of 2 1/2" x 42" strips. This book has a little different twist...the wonderful quilt projects here start with Jelly Rolls and then add applique to top them off, great ideas...and also includes instructions for those who don't want to use a Jelly Roll! This will get you started with one of the easiest starts to a quilt ever! $9.95, plus shipping

DebraK - Great work and well done!! What are the names of your patterns? I especially like the diamonds!

DebraK 07-26-2010 07:26 AM

I got the diamond quilt idea from Mary Johnson's pattern site. You can google her name and find it. She also runs the HeartStrings blog. Lots of strip ideas.

Thanks!

I did one with the strips I got from the strip swap on this board earlier this year. I pieced it on the machine, then cut into triangles and restitched into squares, added sashing and binding from my own stash, as well as fleece batting/backing. I am currently in the process of hand quilting it. Sorry the colors look so faded in this picture!

Good work!!

DebraK, I love all your blocks, especially the star triangle but I don't have the x-block ruler. Can I use something else, or just cut the triangles? What size is the triangle? Thanks so much for the ideas.

The ruler is actually just a square, that you line up at an angle on a strip set. I'll bet you can figure out how to do it with a regular square ruler. I am lazy.

I used 3 strips. The white strip and outside color are 2-1/2" strips, the middle strip is 2-1/8". I had to use these widths to make the X-Block template work.

Thanks DebraK, I have just now gotten back on the computer. After looking at your block for a while I decided to cut some rectangles. I cut them 6 1/2" by 4", then cut them on the diagonal. It seem to be working just fine. Went to the site you suggested and she has some great quilts. I think I will make enough of the star block for a baby quilt and then do the diamond. Thanks again for the ideas.
