I'm making a quilt that the side borders are strip. The pattern calls for several 8x8" squares cut into 4 triangles from each square. I want all the strips to go horizonial around the quilt. However when I cut the 4 triangles 2 are horizonial & 2 are veritcal. I'm wasting a lot of fabric, Any suggestions

can the 'wasted' triangles be used on the other ends of the quilt so that all the stripes are going in the same direction - toward the center?

Verticals on another project

you might cut a strip of the stripe fabric the width of the triangle from long side to point, then cut alternate sides with a 90* ruler.

All your stripes would run the same direction, then.

You could also use a strip - excuse the quick drawing but I think you will understand. You would have very little waste.

sounds like you might need to cut the triangles individually in order to get the stripes turning in the right direction. And then you may still have an equal number of opposites. or at least fabric left over. On the other hand if the fabric is a woven then the back might be as good as the front. A printed fabric would not be that way.
