Doe anyone know what is the strongest thread for hand quilting?
Thanks, Connie |
I don't know if it is the strongest, but after much experimentation I prefer Gutermann's.

I like Coats and Clarks Dual Duty plus extra strong hand quilting thread. Is a cotton covered poly tho, so those who prefer all cotton will want a different thread.

I use the Coats and Clark mentioned above and find it to be very strong. Never had a problem with it. I like it because it is not as stiff as 100% cotton, but does the job just as well.

HI Connie !
I've always used Coats & Clark thread for straight sewing and crafts projects, and now with quilting. This is an old and reputable company; they make excellent stuff, in my humble opinion. The 100% glace cotton hand quilting thread is what I use in quilting. It is very sturdy and stands up to the batting well; no shredding. It also makes for sturdy knots and doesn't kink or tangle so much. I just wish they would make this particular thread in colors other than cream. Hope this helps. Good luck ! |
Coats "extra strong" Dual Duty Plus Hand Quilting (glace finish cotton covered polyester) and A&E Quilting Thread (glace finish cotton covered polyester) are probably the strongest threads I've used but my two favorites are Robinson Anton 100% cotton 50wt and Mettler Quilting 100% cotton 40wt. They tend to tangle a bit easier than the glace threads, but they make a pretty stitch and come in so many wonderful colors.
