I've been working on this Spring Applique project for 2 days straight! I'm debating on the border! Brown? (for dirt - I love to garden, with perhaps some red posies on the border)

or a braided border or would that be too fussy and too much?

DH is no help all he says is yep that's nice!!!!!!!

this thing started as a wall hanging but is quickly turning into a lap quilt.

I guess I'm thinking spring hurry up!

My humble opinion is to use the brown border..

I think that the braided border would be too busy..

You could do the brown border and then the braided one outside of it..

How is that for adding to your delima?

I vote for the brown border too...of course with the red posies. The braided would look nice outside of that (good idea Judy)

Okay--here's what I would do. I'd put on a log cabin style border--which is one side, then add the one next to it, then the one next to that...etc, rather than opposite sides.... and I'd use brown, yellow green, and blue.

I love to garden too--so you'd have all the earthy colors surrounding your GORGEOUS piece.

PS My husband would have said the EXACT same thing.

Oh, that's going to be gorgeous! Brown would be my choice and if you're determined to make it a bed quilt, add the other borders...lol lol

Wow. That's really nice. I think I would add a thin brown border and then maybe another border with a bright color (red?) after that.

How about brown on the bottom.
Nothing more on the left.
Blue on the right & top.

What about a white border? That is the color you used behind the floral basket at the top right? Then you could co around with that pretty flying geese in green I see off by itself.

I'm with you Karla and you too gigi, DH does the same thing to me.  He does sort of linger and help me plan the ones he "likes" better. ~Pink quilt he's not much help. LOL!

Very nice job! I would keep the border simple so it doesn't take away from the applique.

I kind of like the idea of that blue that you have in the quilt for a border, to represent the sky, with maybe some more butterflies flitting about

Rainforest_elf 01-02-2009 07:51 PM

I agree, the brown border is the way to go. The braided thing will be nice, but it'll be too busy. You want the focus to be on the center and all that hard work, not some distracting border!

This was my exact thought and since jstitch put it so nicely, I figured I would just quote her.

Small red border to frame it first would be my choice.

Quilt4u 01-03-2009 07:52 AM

Vrey nice. I would go with brown.

Now that is an excellent idea. It would pull the reds in the center together as well as drawing the eye to the center of the quilt and back again.

Braided is definitely OUT!

I love the idea of Brown's, greens and Blue.

I cannot wait for it to warm up to get the gardens all revived! I think that's why I started that "small project" and have just kept adding things that remind me of being outside.

I'd put birds on the darn thing IF I could find some decent pictures to copy and applique.

I will add additional butterflies rather than vines and flowers.

All great ideas.....This demands a trip to the fabric store. I don't keep blues in my stash. I went through and looked at all the browns, they all had something in them......Greens are mostly Christmas Types.

<twisting arm> going to fabric store!
