Stupid Mistake
 

:thumbdown::thumbdown: I made a stupid mistake and don't know if I can fix it. I have a Square-n-Blocker that I use for an ironing pad. I forgot to lay my sheet down and now have glue on it and have no idea if I can get it out. Any suggestions? And thanks to whomever suggested a dryer sheet to clean the iron,that worked like a charm!:D:D:D

I don't have any ideas for how to get the glue off -

but very few of us make "smart mistakes" :rolleyes: :) :(

I wonder if putting paper, like from an old-style grocery sack, on it & ironing would help lift the glue. It could be worth a try. I also got some heat/bond on my ironing pad & put aluminum foil down then ironed that. It lifted some of the heat/bond, but not all.

I agree with the brown paper bag down and ironing over it. I also agree with "bearisgray" that no one ever makes a "smart" mistake. Mistakes happen and don't feel bad-we have all been there. Good luck

There is a product that hospitals use that is called adhesive remover. I have never tried it, but it might work.

Thanks for the ideas. I will try them all. Maybe a paper bag will work, I never thought of that.

Goo Gone? It works for lots of sticky, gooey things.

I was going to suggest Goo Gone also. I have used is successfully in several situations.

Goo Gone was my first thought, but if you don't have it, try vinegar. It seems to be magic elixir for everything . LOL

What kind of glue?

I would try the Goo Gone too, I got some tile adhesive and double sided tape glue off with it. Took a couple applications of letting it sit for 15-20 minutes, rubbing it was a scratchy pad, wiping off and repeating a time or two more but it all came up.

How about putting it in the freezer. I've heard you can put gum on cloth in their and after its frozen it will chunk off.
I've also heard if someone gets gum in their hair to hold ice cubes on the hair and it will chip off.

I've heard that if you iron over aluminium foil it lifts the glue.

My big mistake was that I bought a new iron and forgot to take the protective plastic off the sole plate before plugging it in. I noticed it when it started smoking. I didn't have room in my freezer so I sat the iron in a tray of ice after it cooled down and I stopped kicking myself. Sure enough the plastic chipped right off. What little residue was left I used a magic eraser on and voila! iron was saved. I use magic eraser to periodically clean my iron if there's any accumulation of stuff on the plate.

Well, I have gotten fusible on my ironing board and by ironing a scrap to it and quickly pulling it up I managed to get most of it off. (I have no idea what a Square-n-Blocker is)

This works on a hard surface, spray on and let it set for 20 mins.

The smell is strong orange.

Adhesive remover is acetone - the same chemical in nail polish remover. The remover tends to be oily, so be careful how you use it. Acetone can dissolve some fabrics (mainly polys), so if you decide to try it, try first in a small hidden area.

Have you tried ice cubes for "freezing" the glue, then scraping it off with a credit card edge? I've heard that can work.

My first thought was also, what kind of glue? If its school glue or similar, soak the area in water. Keep dabbing with paper towel until the glue is gone. If its hot glue sticks, heat up the glue gun, swipe over the glue, remove excess glue with paper towels and small putty knife. Keep touching the glue until just the 'wet' spot remains. Place a paper towel over it and iron. Place a clean section of the paper towel over remaining spot and iron again. If its super glue, dab a cotton tip swab with diluted Goof Off and swipe the glue until soft and scrape it off. You will need to take soap and water and get the cleaner out of the pads fabric.

Or, you could recover the pad with muslin and add the glue mistake to the list of things not to do again.

I use lighter fluid, the kind used for cigarette lighters to remove glue from stickers from books and things. Acetone is not the same as a glue remover. It damages any plastic. I don't like Goo Gone, it leaves an oily residue.

There is a product called Un-Do. It is no toxic and works on anything to remove glue. I removed stuck photos to glass with it and it did not harm the photos. It has been used for years by professionals but now available to anyone. I buy it at WalMart. I keep several bottles of it handy. No lingering smell or oily yuk like the Goo Gone.
