I am very interested in quilting but I can't seem to pick out any fabrics I like in fear it will look awful. Any advice on what to do or a good beginer peice to catch the inspiration? Thanks, Amy

Hi Amy, I think Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day Books are one of the easiest out there for directions etc. (no affialliation) I have several of her books. Also ask you local quilt shop for help. Most people will assist you in picking out fabric. When I first sstarted quilting that was my problem. I tended to pick out fabric that was considered "medium" in color. Keep in mind you want contrast, light,medium, and dark. Good Luck Marge

trust your instints you may suprise yourself. Pick what you like then if not sure ask someone what they think,

One of the easiest ways to pick colors that will "go together", is to pick one multicolored fabric that you love, then carry that around the store with you & pick out the colors from it. That would be your "focus" fabric - and you know you like the colors in that one already, so the others will be happy together as well! And you don't even have to use the original fabric in the quilt if you don't want to. It's quilt magic! :D

When you pick the focus fabric that xyz was talking about, see if there are little dots of color on the selvege that show what colors they used to print the fabric. These dots are a good guide for choosing matching colors. Works great!

Her books are wonderful. Instead of going out and buying a whole lot of books, like I did, check with your library first, then if you really like them, buy them. I learned the hard way, but luckily I was with a book site where they were all just $9.99.
