Suggestions needed please
 

How do you keep your thread (embroidery mainly) from un threading when traveling & your nit hauling around your big thread holder box???
I put the threads I think I'm going to need, on a retreat or in a class in a plastic bag to keep them clean. Yet when I go to get one our there all tangled up / jumbled up & a rats nest.

Suggestion please?

Little girl's pony tail bands. Most of them are a soft, stretchy fabric and they work great for unruly threads.

make a friend in a flower shop they have those plastic stretchy net things that go on flower buds. I cut them to size some are long or just fold over

Put each cone in a sandwich baggy or wrap with stretchy plastic wrap or buy the thread nets and then put them in a larger plastic bag or box. I use the thread nets and place the cone and any bobbins in the same baggie. Zip it shut...No tangles. I have a hard time telling cotton from polyester thread once it is on a bobbin so I have to keep the bobbin & cone together. lol

I took card stock and cut it into a 3" circle...then went around with a hole punch and punched holes every 1/2 inch. I take my embroidery floss and cut it in 18-20" lengths...which is about the length i work with....fold the length in half...then put the loop end through the hole - pull through - the bring the loose end through the loop and draw "tight" to hold. Several of these will fit into a sandwich bag for transport.....i've never had any tangling problems.

Hugo's Amazing tape really is amazing, lol. It's a vinyl tape, so not sticky - just sticks to itself. I bought the broader one and half it. It can also be re-used on another spool when that one runs out.

Great idea with the vinyl tape but you could probably make some just by buying the vinyl and cutting it into the size that would work for you. That is what I use keeping a piece around a bolt of fabric. I don't like using pins because they can rust and leave holes in the fabric.

When I was doing cross stitch I bought the storage boxes. They had white cardboard pieces that you wound the floss on and then put in the spaces in the box. I have large boxes but there are smaller boxes, too. That would be a good solution to your embroidery floss problem.

I use the snack size baggies (about half the size of a sandwich size) and embroidery floss fits well into those.

For spools of thread I like Crystal Light containers. Usually 4 spools fit into one container. They are great for storing Aurifil thread.

Great idea on the vinyl tape. Where is that sold?

On one of the TV quilting shows the guest showed how she used plastic tubing from a DIY store and cut it in the appropriate length then slit one side so it wrapped around the thread spool. The tubing is very cheap and it works.

I had tried that vinyl type tape and found it didn't work well for me.

Has anyone tried that newer plastic wrap that adheres to itself?
