Suggestions needed
I need to make 2 Quillows. Of course there is a short time factor. So.... I am looking for a down & fast something that isn't a 9 patch of something small. For one (male) I have tan, dk brown & a tan scattered print, & tan/ dk brown in a cluster print. Any or all can be used. For the 2nd- (female) I haven't gotten there yet for colors. Any thoughts on blocks? Things need to be simple & fast though the pillow part can be a little more involved. Thanks for any input & ideas.

Buy fleece and add a pocket?

Wow bearisgray, you're fast on the reply!!! Thank you for the suggestion. Sad fact though- I don't like fleece & will be using cotton. Just stuck on a block to use.

There have been some baby quilts that basically use a huge uneven 9-patch as the pattern

I think a log cabin block done with the strip method goes fast. I was going to suggest fleece too. :o

An oversized rail fence, with wider-longer than normal strips would work up fast.

This was just HSTs in a non-standard layout. It was pretty quick to make and it's pretty gender neutral. I also added a handle to my quillow pocket and backed the whole thing in flannel since it was a chemo quilt for a student's mother.

Decide on the size of the pillow part first. I might do a large Warm Wishes with 1 square the size of the pocket. The reason I like to do the pocket the size for the center third of the quilt is beacause I like to top stitch the pillow edge through the whole finished quilt for extra security. If people put their feet in the pocket, the pillow corners will tear if not really secure.

You could also start with a panel and add borders to it. That'd be really fast. And non quilters don't even usually notice that it's not really pieced or appliqued.
