Hi my brother has donated 15 very large 100% cotton shirts to me. He is quite ill at the moment and I would like to make him a lap quilt using his shirts. Any suggestions as to an effective but relatively simple and quick pattern. I am not a fast worker but would like to do some thing I could piece in a day but I still want it to look "patchwork" rather than just blocks. Thank you for any suggestions.

How about a simple 4 patch, alternating with a plain patch?

Sounds like a good suggestion

Warm Wishes is a very simple pattern. Will go together very quickly.

I am making a quilt using Yellow Brick Road from my father-in-law's shirts. I also used this pattern to make him a twin size for his bed to celebrate his 100th year of his favorite sports teams...I made it and gave it to him as he was gravely ill and soon was having home hospice at our home. It was therapy for me and a pleasure for him. It is an easy pattern to put together...and I just started quilting in October!

just make a strip quilt..

cut the shirts up at around 5.5 "...and stagger them like i did with this one.
no seams to match..
no set length..just the width needs to be the same.

for my SIL

This is quite effective!

Done with 6" squares, basic 9patch then re-cut and sashing added

Another suggestion/style. The blocks are 18". Strips are 2.75" and squares are made from a 10.25" square sewn into a 9" finished. This is four shirts and five pairs of pants... if my memory serves me correct.
