Suggestions please!

I joined a 'Round Robin' and just got my quilt back. It is approx. 42" x 46". I can't seem to come up with any ideas how to add to it to make it bigger. So I am looking for suggestions how to complete this. I'd like to make it throw size or even bed size.

The first picture is the original block I made. As you can see, I like angels and primitive looking quilts. The second picture is what I got back at the end of the Round Robin. Each added border (finished size 3" wide) had a theme: first border, circles, second border squares, third border triangles, forth border rectangles and fifth/last border polygons.

I don't want to duplicate the existing borders but do something new. I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks for taking a look.

I would just take one of the darker tonal colors....maybe the blue of the angels dress and just put a final border...like the frame of a pic., give the work within it a place to shine...and finish....

I'm no help but it's very pretty! Love your angel! Good luck!

Because your center is applique, I would do an applique border. A simple leaf and vine with some flowers in the deep red would be cute. Or you could search Google images of primitive angel applique and maybe get some ideas from that.

If you do it 6" wide that would increase your size to 54" x 58". That is still on the small side for a throw so you could frame it in that red gingham by putting 1" on either side. This would make it 58" x 60" which I feel is a nice throw size big enough to nap under comfortably.

Would you be willing to do more applique... trailing flowers/vines? you might like a solid sashing around what you have now and then a 10" wide border w/ the vine-type appliques. it need not be very elaborate... if it were, it'd detract from the center. Seems like the borders need to be less busy than the center and this would be a way to accomplish that.
ETA..previous poster and I were answering at the same time and I see she said the same thing!

Whether you choose to do more applique in the border or not I think the final border needs to be dark so at to make a frame for the quilt. I like your angel and primitive or country look. Those people who contributed to your quilt in the round robin did a very nice job keeping the feeling you started with.

With your center being an angel, I can see some stars set into a border. Not a full star border, but a few, maybe mixed with a smaller version of your angel center.

If you just want to add length, I would do a French a Braid on the top and bottom using as much as the fabric colours from the top as possible. The French Braid would kind of tie in the similar braid but be a little different. I you wanted, you could add an applique Angel in the center square of each French Braid.
i think I would add a plain separating border around the perimeter of the existing top before adding to it or the crazy pieced blocks are going to be busy against another pattern.

I would just add a wide dark green border but the top and the bottom needs to be a little wider to give you the size of a lap quilt (no more than 2"-3"). If you wanted to, you can add length by doing a braid as Tartan suggested. You could then follow the design of piecing in the corners and do applique in the corner. You have some talented quilting friends. Good Luck.
