suggestions for quilting this on long-arm

I'm renting a long-arm next week to quilt this. I'd appreciate suggestions for simple motifs. I really like this quilt and would like to do something other than a meander. I'm not very experienced, hence the "simple" request.

Lovely top! Since you want to keep it simple, I would quilt a flower petal in each of the four squares in the coloured blocks. If you loaded it sideways, you could do a flower in each of the blocks and a travel stem between them in the ditch. I would then repeat that in the white rows but do the 4 petal flower shape around the pinwheel sections.

Sorry, I was so awed by it, that I forgot you were asking for quilting info. I'm sure there are others more qualified than I, for those kind of answers. I do think whatever you do will look good on this very pretty quilt. I will say, since it's in columns, my inclination would be to do something that either goes horizontal or SITD, with something else for the smaller pinwheels. Really like this quilt a lot. Pretty colors. |
The pattern was a free download from an ad in a quilt mag for Timeless Treasures fabrics in 2015. The pattern is by Marlous Carter and it's called Moulinets. I'm not sure it's still available. The fabric is a jelly roll of Craftsy's Boundless brand botanicals. The border is "meadow dance" by Benartex. Funny story about the border. I had yardage of the the light green fabric that's in the jelly roll for the border, but decided it didn't work, so went looking for something more appropriate. I walked into the quilt shop and this fabric is literally right in front of me, and it has all the colors of my quilt. So I was in and out in 5 minutes.

I like Tartan's idea, or if you google Daisy Chain you can see some all over flower designs that might be a start for you to draft a simple version for yourself?

I suggest just augment the meander that you are comfortable with by adding loops and leaves shaped like hearts. It's easy. Practice a little on paper first. SID on longarm is time consuming and I don't suggest it for your rental period. If the quilt is stabilized with other quilting it might be easier to add some SID when you are home with your DSM. I would use a white thread and work in the background to start adding leaves and loops into the colored portions as you get more confident. see sample sketch below.

Your quilt top is beautiful! Lovely colors. What about some easy flowers and loops, since the flowers may mimic the beautiful piecing you've done? [ATTACH=CONFIG]584570[/ATTACH] Or maybe vines in the white columns and flowers in the colored columns? |
I can do flowers and loops, maybe even the occasional butterfly in the border as there are butterflies in the fabric. Sephie, glad you found the pattern. I did a google search but couldn't locate it.
