suggestions for using this fabric

I was thinking maybe a wall hanging but I am open to other options.
It will be a gift for a quilting buddy.
There is a yard of this fabric and I have co-ordinates in my stash.
I am looking for pattern ideas. Links to websites/photos are appreciated.
Thank you.

ok, now I do. Love it but no ideas right now. Will be interested what other folks suggest.

sewingsuz 12-03-2016 07:39 AM

sewing machine cover or thread scraps with the pin cushin.

Tartan 12-03-2016 07:40 AM

I think it would make a darling machine mat with pockets in the front for tools. It would also make a great machine cover but you would need to know the size and shape if her machine. As for a wall hanging, I saw a darling pieced one on Pinterest that had a thread spool, 2 thimbles and a button.

dluvs2quilt 12-03-2016 07:48 AM

How about a quilting tote??

Jo Belmont 12-03-2016 07:48 AM

I think a simple sewing machine cover with the seams highlighted in a large-size (think clothesline) piping in bright, bright yellow would be striking and would give containment to this very busy, but lovely fabric.

QuiltnNan 12-03-2016 08:19 AM

i like the sewing machine cover idea, but if you are thinking wall hanging, i'd use this for wide borders

ckcowl 12-03-2016 09:04 AM

Shopping/tote bag, sewing room baskets, thread catcher, aprons, tool/project pouches, lots of options. Cute fabric

quiltingbuddy 12-03-2016 09:11 AM

It would make a great border fabric! Find some coordinating colors and start making blocks of your choice (maybe use it in the center of those blocks like the center square of a star block for instance). It's really cute! Good luck and have fun.

Exactly where my mind went ... a multi-purpose bag!!
Or even turn it into a fun purse.

jmoore 12-04-2016 03:45 AM

It is a fun fabric and bold...I agree with Quiltnan, I would use it as a border in a wall hanging, otherwise, it would make a great main fabric for a tote. Hmmm...what about a tea cozy?

pmonaghen 12-04-2016 05:18 AM

If you want to do a quick, fun large throw sized quilt, use it as the "main" fabric in the Villa Rose Designs "Honor" quilt...takes 5 1 yard cuts, makes a quilt that is 57 X 76...Goes together very quickly...and since you have fabric to go with it....

Karamarie 12-04-2016 05:18 AM

Maybe a kaleidascope cut quilt as it looks like a big enough pattern for that.

zozee 12-04-2016 05:18 AM

How about a lap quilt in the twister pattern, using solid coordinates with it?

eastslopequilter 12-04-2016 05:22 AM

I had material similar to this and I made a valance for my sewing room.

Jordan 12-04-2016 05:27 AM

Very nice fabric. What about a Turning Twenty quilt especially since you have other fabrics that would go with your main fabric. Also, a tote of somekind-just realized you said you only have 1 yard. Please share pics when you decide.

Skhf 12-04-2016 06:35 AM

Since your friend is also a quilter, I would stay away from throws and large projects. She probably has these already. But a machine cover, and surrounding pincushions, hanging pockets is a great idea! She is probably too busy quilting for others to actually make these practical items for herself. You probably know which machine she has but I have seen covers that simply tie on the ends so an exact size isn't necessary. It probably isn't covered that often anyway. Love your fabric, very cute. Post when done.

Look at the Biontic Gear Bag. Great for sewing notions.

awf60 12-04-2016 07:51 AM

I would make an reversible apron

Ditto Skhf, I vote machine cover.

pal 12-04-2016 09:25 AM

You could pad and cover a large 3 ring loose-leaf book and fill it with plastic folders for her patterns and ideas. Add a
pencil holder that attaches to the rings and put in a small pair of scissors. Great fabric, btw, very happy looking!

lillybeck 12-04-2016 11:30 AM

An apron. It could be an apron when sewing or one for cooking

My time 12-04-2016 11:48 AM

What about the spool of thread blocks. The thread part of the spool could be this fabric or your coordinating fabrics, or thiss could be the border. Otherwise an apron or thread catcher pin cushion could be cute.

Mornigstar 12-04-2016 12:01 PM

Oh my, so many ideas. Like the one re sewing machine cover and the tote bag. Good to see a member in east Canada.

lynnie 12-04-2016 05:55 PM

i like the machine cover. i need one desperately, if someone wants to make me one.

jetayre 12-04-2016 06:47 PM

How about a wine bag?

carolynjo 12-04-2016 08:29 PM

Someone else suggested an apron; I agree. A tote would be great. Also, hot pads or mitts.

rj.neihart 12-05-2016 03:11 AM

I agree with Tartan - something to cover the machine would look very nice!

Innov8R 12-05-2016 07:15 AM

I like the sewing machine cover idea. I saw one the other day that had a pocket along the front where you could keep a few things handy and I would make that pocket in a coordination fabric. I also liked the idea of large yellow cording that someone had. This looks like fun to me.

Rose Bagwell 12-05-2016 10:25 AM

All suggestions given are some of what I had in mind, if it as for me, I would love to have a tote with inside pockets to carry my quilting stuff in when I travel or go to class.

pandamommy 12-05-2016 06:27 PM

Lots of good ideas. A tote was my first thought I would also suggest some mug rugs

ranger 12-06-2016 05:29 AM

Thanks for the suggestions. I will decide between a machine cover or Tartan's idea for a machine mat...maybe a pin cushion if enough fabric is left.

Also..thanks to poster named pal...the idea for a binder will be used. It will be a perfect gift for my sister.
