Sullivan's The Cutting Edge Rulers--are they effective?
I have seen The Cutting Edge Rulers and wondered if anyone has tried them. Do they actually sharpen your rotary blade and are they good cutting rulers in general? :)
Thanks for your opinions. Anna |
I have read reviews on other boards about these rulers. From what I understand, you need to apply pressure against the ruler while cutting so you can sharpen the blade. Also, I have read that this leaves behind "metal dust" on the fabrics. I have one of the electric sharpeners by Grace Co. I love it!

I have one. Regret buying it. It dulled my blade (I followed the directions of keeping my cutter upright). In addition, the edging is now peeling off and I only bought this thing a few months ago.

Here are some reviews on the rulers - http://blog.tv-sewingcenter.com/sewi...ng-edge-ruler/
Looking at the various reviews, it sounds like a product that people either love or hate. |
I know someone that boutht one and it did dull the blade and the edging is wearing ogg and she said she only used it about 10 times.

I've only used mine twice but found it sharpened my blade nicely. I had "lost" all 10 of my replacement blades and was refusing to buy still more. Found the replacement blades but will still use it occasionally.

I find that it does sharpen my blade.

I decided to order the 6.5" x 24.5" ruler and try one out. I will update my post after giving it a try. :)
Thanks for your input! Anna |
it sounds like a good idea, but i don't think i like the idea of the metal dust.

Sometime I think companies go too far! If you have a blade to sharpen, sharpen it with a sharpener. I surely don't want metal 'filings' on my fabric, as someone else has told of. Why do we need tools that do 2 or 3 jobs in one. Why not make us tools for one purpose that are high in quality with the latest improvement and let it go at that. It's just as bad with the tools men buy "Three tools in One". Many times the whole thing isn't worth the money spent on it and is hardly ever of good quality. Well, I through grumbling :-)
