I bought the Accuquilt Go Sunbonnet Sue and Sam dies and want to begin making the quilt but I'm not sure what to use as background squares. Most pictures of these show a white background but I was wondering if a "sky" type of background might work as well. I'm hoping these dies will use up some of the smaller scraps I have.

Use what you like as the background, there aren't any rules :D:D:D

You can use anything you like.
Some uses colors and some uses muslin.

Background is up to you! Have fun with it!

You can even piece the background if you want. You can make it look like scenery in the back of them--blue sky,a fence, green grass, trees, birds flying, etc. As with any quilts they're your creations to be made as simple or as elaborate as you want. You can add pockets and hankerchiefs to the Sams, lace or embroidery to the Sues. You can even have Sue pulling a wagon or holding a teddy bear/doll. It just depends on you, your imagination and the stash you have to pull from.

Sure, sky would work! I'd try to keep it a light sky to provide sufficient contrast for the Sunbonnets.

Are you using the Go! to make fusible appliques? I have a Go! but didn't know Sunbonnets were available for it.

You can piece the back ground for a landscape look.

The new dies just came out. They aren't on the website I don't believe but I could be wrong. I get all my dies from a lady who sells them at a discount.

I made my daughters each a snowman quilt for Christmas a few years ago and I use different color solid or tone on tone fabrics for the blocks and appliqued the snowman designs on them. I then sewed 2 1/2 inch squares of all different scrappy fabrics to border around the blocks. The quilts turned out so nice and I think a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt would look good made like that. I may add that to my to do someday list.

The only suggestion I would make is to "audition" the background before sewing down. Place Sue or Sam on the background and stand back a ways and see if they complement each other. Color choice and pattern is strictly up to you, the creator. Have fun!
