Super Sized Nine Patch HELP!!!!!!
 

Ok, OMG I can't get how one makes the cuts. I understand how to fold and lay fabric ,but that's it. on the diagram, it looks like you only cut one 9" then another 9", ok see I can't even explain it. Can someone please please take a picture on how I make these cuts. I don't know what the heck is wrong with me today.

Sounds like it's time to do something else now--maybe some chocolate. When I experience what you're going through now, I quit and go back to it the next day. Everything will go better tomorrow.

Aw Kristakz now I get it.lol Yes a break with chocolate sounds good lol, but I choose yogart hehehe...I did try the cuts as per the instructions, but had to make an extra cut because like Kristakz diagram (which was soooo great btw:thumbup:) I didn't cut all the way down the center....Yeppy got it. Oh want to share this link which I will also put in the link area to...but want to share here to everyone who helped. Your numbers don't add up. if you're cutting 9x9 piece and then another 9x24, that gives you a piece of fabric 33" length?????

Yes, a picture would be nice to know what the finished project looks like

I am so glad to see this pattern explored and explained! I've been meaning to try it, but couldn't quite get the cutting instructions. Think I do now, though!

But thanks soooo much for offering to help. Oh wow I just went to your one blog about the square on point method, I'll have to check to see if I have that issue...

You start with 1 yard of fabric - 36" x 42". Fold in quarters and trim down to 18x21" (make sure you trim on the unfolded edges. Then, after the cuts, the total length is 9" + 24" + 9" = 42"(unfolded). In the folded case, you have a 9x9" square upper right, 9x12" rectangle below it. 9x9 upper left (with a fold), and 9x12 lower left (which unfolds to 18x24).

Ive made several of these 9 patch quilts - super easy. Any idea where I can get the pattern for Super Size Square On Point quilt? Looks like another good one.

this is a great pattern. I used it to make blankets for a son's dogs (they didn't care was thhe result might be :) )
quick & easy.
Just a thought if you're making charity quilts quantity- how about putting 4 together for a larger top. you could also mix around the pieces between them for variety

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I have spent the better part of the morning looking for my issue Sept/October '11 Quiltmaker for the square on point pattern and can't find it...I know I have it because my list that I keep for magazine I have says I purchased this magazine...Oh well guess I won't be making this pattern anytime soon.....I'm betting it's hiding with my lost Yellow Brick Road pattern. Darn ole gremlins lol

I just finished your Anita's Arrowheads (saved from Quiltmaker magazine years ago). I loved your technique and know the 12 year old boy will love his "not girly" quilt.

I just made three of these for my GDIL's baby shower. Everybody there loved them. They said they had never seen any like them.

Super-size square on point looks pretty simple. Take two squares of fabric (36x36, if you want to stick with a 1-yard quilt). Fold both in quarters. Cut each on the diagonal (one single cut - that's itl) - leaving the folded edges on one side of your cut, and the unfolded raw edges on the other. Do this to both fabrics. You get one center square, and 4 triangles. Swap the triangles, sew them to the corners of the opposite coloured center square, and voila. Square it up. Considering loss for seams and squaring, you get two 34x34" (or so) blankets.

But as karma has it or should I say the gremlins lol...They left me a trail last night that led me right to the magazine...silly gremlins lol....now if they could please leave me a hint to where my Yellow Brick Road pattern is that would be great. Not that I need it right now...hummmm maybe they will when I need it lmao....

I wasn't getting anywhere with that pattern until I found the link by Evie on P. 1. Then on P.2, Kristakz (no. 12) gives very good directions on how to start. After that I understood what to do. In #25 Anita gives the directions for "Square on Point". Hope this saves some of you a little time in looking for these.

Great idea and too bad someone didn't know the art of doing this years ago. Great job. I am sure there are many that will use your pattern and idea. Keep up the great work.
