Will probably purchase the Supreme Slider after reading so many great things about it. I'm kind of a slow starter, just got my first pair of quilting gloves LOL.
Anyway, many of you have made your own substitutions, using various vinyls - just wondering, how would a shower curtin liner work, it's heavy and clear and most of you probably have one buried in the linen closet - your thoughts please

As long as I would stay put, I don't see why it wouldn't work. It's worth a try.

To be honest with you, I used the heaviest vinyl Joanne's had and it didn't do anything and then I bought the queen sized supreme slider. It stayed put on the sewing machine much better but I have not really notices a difference in my quilting. I am considering selling it. I was very optimistic about it working but it just didn't do much.

I bought the teflon oven liner for 6.00 and it's just as good..only diff being you need to tape it down...saved 22.00 that's all that mattered

Wow never thought of that. I did break down and bought the supreme slider off Amazon for $15.00 I love it, really works great. Sure wish I had thought of the oven liner. Where did you buy it?

I just bought an oven liner on ebay a couple of days ago but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. It is 26" by 16" and I paid $7.99 for it with free shipping. I will let you know how it works.

I bought an oven liner at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $8. Works great and it's 18 inches square, much larger than my Supreme Slider. The only thing I don't like is that it has to be taped down and I have to move the tape to change out my bobbin, but it's a small disadvantage. It's well worth it.

Hey, now I know what to do with the next 20% off coupon that get in the mail which seems like every month. I don't shop at BBandB much but this sounds like it might be worth the drive up to Pineville.

I don't recall ever seeing one of these but can the liner be cut so you could cut a place to retrieve your bobbin???

I just recently purchased the supreme slider and used it to do tote bags without a lining using fusiable batting; worked great! (I hate the batting but someone gave me a bunch). This batting usually does not like to move, messes with the bed of the machine. For this use I wouldn't do without the SS.

I bought the first Slider when it came out and it had to be taped down and was very small. I used double side tape and put it on and it worked great but I wanted more coverage. Then I bought 5 teflon liners on ebay for around $20 (several years ago). Although they are brown rather than white, they work great and I like them better than the slider. I think the Sliders are overpriced.

I had seen the Super Slider at the quilting store but was hesitant in buying another tool. So I didn't buy it. I was in a tight deadline quilting (midnight quilting) my DN wedding quilt and had trouble moving the quilt for FMQ. I remembered the Slider and thought what could I use instead. I ended up using a garbage bag. I wrapped it around and taped it underneath my acrylic table. I cut a hole out for the needle. It was very McIvered but it did make quilting easier. LOL

Just shows how resourceful we quilters can be. Great idea in a pinch.

I would use the Sew Slip brand instead. It's twice the size and about the same price. :)

I bought the heaviest gauge I could find at Joann's. I cut it to fit my extension table. Then using a marker I cut out all around the feeddog & needle area. I don't use tape and it works like a charm. Just an FYI

I don't know about size, but I found the Sew Slip sells for $28.75 on their website. The Supreme Slider was on Amazon for $19.69.

Although I agree the Supreme Sliders are overpriced, I do find using one makes a big difference...not the the quilting so much as the quilter! I have FM quilted on: my machine table (Juki, Bernina), Sew Steady tables, vinyl, and Supreme Sliders. I votes for the Supreme Sliders every time...they offer much, much less resistance than any of the other surfaces do, and that means I do not have to engage my shoulders and arms as much. I can move my FM with the lightest of touches.

I will be happy when sewing machine manufacturers put out machine decks that are themselves Teflon coated! Then I can trim my Slider to expose my bobbin access hatch and not have to move the slider off the machine bed every time I have to change the bobbin (I have a Juki 2010Q and there is no side door for the bobbin, allowing you to change the bobbin from under the sewing table...you have to go in through the top, garg). Until that day I will likely cut up my Supreme Slider (eek!) such that I can open the bobbin hatch without removing the slider.

Here's what I found:

I use the normally discarded paper backing from a roll of contact paper. Tape the paper slippery side up to my work surface with a small hole cut out for the needle on the machine - works like a charm and didn't cost any $$. :)

I am considering buying the supreme slider in the large size. But after reading how thrifty you all are I think I will try the non stick oven liner first to see how I like that.

I use a silicone oven liner I bought for under $10 at Target....it works wonderful, and of course less cost....

My machine is on a 5’ x 30” Iceberg folding table from Costco. I’ve got a Sew Steady table that is 24” x 18” by my old Pfaff. Are these sliders/liners to be used in addition to a Sew Steady table, or instead of one, or are they for people that have their SM in a cabinet?

I have one, but it is currently lost. I haven't noticed any difference at all quilting without it.

I'd skip it unless you don't like your current set up and are looking for things to try to change.
