Is anyone working on this now or if not have you worked on it at all. I'm going to get started soon and need a little help.
|
I just bought the book used and made one square.
Im dissapointed that some blocks that would be easy to piece are for paper piecing. I do not like paper piecing so will have to take measurements and convert the block pattern. I wanted to make a Dear Jane quilt but the 4 inch blocks are too small so thought the 6 in blocks for the bridal quilt would be easier to do. I needed some background fabric so ordered some and got sidetracked in the meantime. Now I need to get back to it. I decided to make it with civil war fabrics but it is a modern block pattern. What colors are you using? |
I'm using scraps that I have with a cream Kona background. I thought it would be a good way to use up some material. I'm a little confused about cutting the templates. What did you use, how did you trace them etc.
|
here's a link to the quilt for those, like me, not familiar with it :)
|
I have the book and it is in my "to do list".

I finished my quilt, which I did over about a year and a few months.
I coordinate an online BOW group for the author. We do one block a week and there are tips, monthly drawings, etc. Join us by visiting http://www.sylviasbridalsampler.com. Click on BOW and look for the sign up instructions in the left column. Here's a photo of mine: |
That's just gorgeous. I may have to re-think using the cream background. I love all the bright colors. I did go on to that website but I had trouble getting it to work.
|
It's on my to do list.
|
I recently borrowed the book from the Library again but I regret to say thatit may have to take a back seat because I have 3 little ones that need updated quilts that I hope to have ready for them by Christmas. I will get started on it thought by the end of the year hopefully! I'm going to do mine in Asian fabrics......I know.....it will be my own personal twist...

Go to my profile click on topics & then I Envy Sylvia to see mine. I explained what I did.

I too found it to be a great learning experience. There are so many different techniques included and going from easy to hard is a great idea. Thanks for sharing! |
Both of your quilts are beautiful.
Now I really want to get started but I think I need to think about my color choice. Just watched the slide show, lots of ideas and hard work. |

You have more perseverance than I did. I grouped them the way I did 'cause I didn't want to do all the sashing. I knew I'd never remember the names of the blocks unless I did something like that. :D |
Beautiful quilt.
It is on my bucket list. First, I need to finish my Farmers Wife quilt. Maybe someday. |
:)
|
Just made my third block and do not like the instructions.
Good thing Im expierienced or would not be able to make this quilt. The instructions are terrible, lacking in some very important things like lining up pieces and which way to press. The very first block is a triangle in a square and unless you know how to line up the pieces before sewing it can be a mess. |
I'm wondering if I can handle this. I'm going to start and hope it goes okay. With a 6 inch block, even if you have to start over, you're not wasting much material. Wish there was a group that was just starting so we could ask questions as we go along.
|
Im just finishing up on a 4th block and the instructions are very incomplete. Your triangles dont match well.
|
I just did the very last block N10. Probably the easiest in the book. It gave me a little confidence. Did you start at the first block? I looked at it and didn't think I was ready.
|
I'd be happy to lead a group if you want me to start one here. Anyone game?

Thanks Lynda, Im game.
Just did the bears paw block but used El Burns pattern for the 6 inch block. Much better except I should have used the 1/4 in setting instead of the scant because it came out to big. Her patterns are too perfect. I have to set my machine at 2.5 to get my blocks the right size and even then one came out to small, block f6. Im skipping all the paper pieced blocks also. |
Took the time to convert some patterns to El Burns method and what a difference in quality and time spent.
|
I've done four blocks. My LQS wants me to lead a group next
year so I'm trying to work up several blocks ahead of time. I just love the look of this quilt. |
I purchased the book, but I have 6 projects ahead of it. I am going to watch this post so I can be half way educated when the time comes.

I belong to the online BOW group Lynda is hosting. It's great! I started without much experience but I learned a lot. I did start myself before I joined the group, I started with the easy blocks. I think the instructions in the book are ok.
|
When LGQ did BOM, there were a couple of months with instruction changes included as there were errors in the book. I THINK you can go to website to get the corrections. But I don't know the link.
|
|
Thanks for the link to errors.
Im having very good results with changing the methods for making the blocks. So much easier and better blocks. The changes can be used over and over again without new figures. Such as making 1 in by 2 inch flying geese with Eleanor Burns method for making 4 at a time and making 1 1/2 in HST either 8 or 4 at a time. It sure saves work and your pieces turn out perfect every time. |
I would join a group also. :)
