T-shirt quilt batt
 

I am going to make a queen size t-shirt quilt and a smaller throw by June 2017.
What batt do you use so they do not weight a ton when finished.
Am thinking of a traditional weight poly for the throw as it will be used a lot more. Is poly OK to use in the queen.

Any and all recommendations are most welcome for me to make a final decision.

Poly would definitely work and be a lot lighter weight than cottons

T- shirt quilts are always heavy, a thin polyester or lightweight wool batting would be the lightest additional weight. Cotton battings are the heaviest.

I always do tee shirt quilts as rag quilts. I cut my squares about twelve inches square and use the back of the shirt as the back of the quilt.

I did one where I put a piece of flannel between the front and back of the shirt and sewed thru all the layers at once. It made the quilt pretty heavy.

AngelaS, do you have any photos of the quilts you make, never heard about doing it 'rag' style. What did you use as your middle/batt for a t-shirt rag quilt. This GD just might like the rag style but sure need to see some.

GD has given me her shirts and they would not all fit into a certain 'one' size square. Am intrigued about this.

The Warm Company makes a poly batting called Soft and Bright. I really like it, the queen quilt on my bed has it, all my kids blankets and quilts have it too. Warm and light and holds up great in the washer and dryer, dries quicker than cotton battings. Shows off stitches beautifully.
