t-shirt quilt question
I will be making a t-shirt quilt and I usually use 100% cotton fabric for my sashing. My question is this---would a broadcloth material work better since it is not all cotton? Anyone else who makes t-shirt quilts what type of fabrics do you incorporate into the quilt?

I sashed each shirt with a batik fabric! I had the hardest time finding fabric that would work with all of the different shirts.

I just used quilters cotton and it came out fine and looked great..I think you could use either and it would be fine..I guess what ever color you can find in either fabric that would go with your T shirts would be good..Make sure you post when you are done love to see it

I used quilter's cotton which I would recommend over broadcloth because it has a heavier weight. Once the t-shirts were fused to the interfacing they were quite heavy and some of my sashing strips rippled because of the difference in weight. I can only imagine that it would be even more of an issue with a lighter weight fabric. Or you might apply interfacing to the sashing strips too???? Just a thought! Good luck and I can't wait to see it when you are done.

I used cottons and batiks they seemed to work well with the interfaced shirts Have fun!

I use plain ol' cotton fabrics. Use whatever you want! Just remember that for stretchy fabrics you'll need to back them with a fusible interface....
|
I prefer sticking with what works best for quilts which is 100% cotton. T-shirt quilts are quite heavy in weight and you need a good quality fabric to hold the t-shirts together.

I used flannel and then pieced some of the left over t-shirt material for a narrow border. The pieced was all gray. Backing was also flannel. Didn't use fusible on that part.
