Tablecloth Batting

I'm in the process of making a round quilted tablecloth for my MIL for Christmas. It's down to sewing the 15 rows together and I'm wondering what I should use for batting. I don't want anything too bulky, but I know it needs to include batting.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't use any batting, just put a back on it and quilt it that way. That's what I would do, but I have never made a tablecloth.

I use the fusible batting in table toppers. Not to heavy, irons flatter, and adds a little stiffness to it.

What about flannel it would give it a little weight. i don't really know because I have never mad a tablecloth.

Definitely use the fusible bating as Crqltr suggested. You HAVE to keep a tablecloth flat enough so that dishes do not rock on the seams and glasses do not tilt. Be careful not to quilt too heavily. Please post pictures when you are finished and include one with the table set with dishes, glasses and silverware so we can see how it looks as it is being used. I'm sure you're doing a great job!

I like to use flannel because it is lightweight. For everyday I take the tablecloth off and we use oilcloth to eat on. Works out real nice.

Thermore batting is great!

i would use the thinnest batting i could find. I have never had good luck quilting with out a batting. Maybe it is just me

Insulbrite is my choice. It will give some protection to the table from heat and sweat from glasses while being a thin batt. I still use hot mats and coasters.

I agree with AnnaO - Use Thermore batting - I use it to make placemats, it works great and is thin enough to work for placemats or tablecloths.
