Same here, I sometimes also get the round tubes for wide fabric; I went to Home Depot and had some of their 1/4" plain dark brown "pegboard" type material (w/o the holes), and had it cut into shelf sizes, that way the bolts can just slide in and out easier and not go through the shelf wiring.

Now we can leave that walk in closet door open, it looks so pretty in there!

What a shame the LQS won't give them to you. I save them from wide widths, also the rolls from batting, for anyone who asks for them. If noone asks for them then they will go to the recycle bin (I only have so much space). Never into a landfill if I can help it. I believe in Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
The empty rolls are great to wrap WIP around with no fold wrinkles.

Some of the wholesalers sell what they call "flat folds". That is fabric that is just folded and isn't on a board. The retailers who buy these flat folds need to keep their boards for these cuts. In case you're interested the flat folds at one warehouse I visited was selling the fabric for $1 a yard.

Wow!

That is what I do for my fabrics. I looked at your pics and I see you have some fabric just like mine. I don't have a place to stand mine upright so I have to lay them down on some shelves I have but it sure works good.

I used to get those boards from my LQS, but she closed. I've asked at Joann's but they won't give them away. Told they have to use the info on the sides for inventory.

Only way joanne and walmart will give the boards is if you buy large amount of yardage of i fabric. at least around here
