I am a fairly new quilter and am so proud of myself when I learn something on my own. Probably you "veteran quilters" already know this, but don't laugh at me. I hated laundering my fabric before using because of the tangled mess I had to undo when it was done. I had seen where some people zig-zagged the edges, but I am very lazy. Soooo, I saw my mesh bag that I have to launder panty hose in and got an idea (maybe not a brilliant one, but any new idea for me is wonderful). I now launder my fabric in mesh bags....they fray very little and hardly any tangling at all.

Thanks for the tip, I hate washing fabric too, for that reason.

HHMMMM I may have to try this one!

I've been quilting for over 30 years and pre-washing all my fabrics... recently I discovered the "delicate" setting on my washing machine! Hardly any fraying! The fabric is a little wetter when the washer stops, so it takes a few minutes more to dry, but comes out so nice! I do use the mesh bags too for fat quarters or scraps.

I will try that. Thanks a million.

Thanks for the tips! It really is a pain to trim off all of those tangled threads.

I must try the suggestions here. I have always surged the ends before washing.
