Made my first tater bag the other day. Has some imperfections in it but it was my first one. Made another one today. This one I didn't use the potato fabric but used some striped red green and tan. I liked the way it turned out. Has anyone else made them without using the potato fabric????

Be very careful and use only cotton thread when you make these. Mine caught on fire.

What did you use for batting?

I've heard some of them tend to be flammable, also.

I made mine out of just regular cotton fabric, not sure of the thread I used, also used Warm & Natural for the inside, so far I haven't had complints, I use mine alot.

I taught the potato bag as a class to my quilt group in Florida. They loved it. They made them using all types of fabric -- potato, corn fabric, floral, tiny prints, batics...anything you have in your stash (as long as it is cotton). They all came out cute and each week, I heard stories of how many more they had made through out the week. They make great hostess gifts!

Do they help extend the life of the potatoes? Do you still need to be careful not to store them near onions?

These are bags that you use in the microwave. You put the potato in the bag, then put it in the microwave. Some people have been having trouble with them starting on fire though. I made one, but now I'm afraid to use it.
