Tea towels for a quilt?

I have lots of tea towels that have been hand embroidered. Some were made by my grandmother, some by my husband's grandmother. 6 of them are on real flour sacks. I have more than I can use in the kitchen! I had thought about making a memorial quilt for both my grandmothers and my husband's featuring the embroidery on the tea towels. I also have a few aprons of theirs that I would also like to include. Before I start hacking away on the fabric I would like to know from the fabric experts out there if tea towel fabric is stable enough on its own for cutting, piecing, etc.... If not, is starching enough or to I need to take extra stabilizing measures? I still haven't made a final decision on the pattern. I'm thinking of using a pattern I saw in the May/June 2012 issue of Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting called "A Sprinkle of Spring" and sub my tea towel embroidery in for the flower and watering can applique (hopefully the link to the pattern posts) Any thoughts or advice? Thanks!

I think this pattern will really showcase your tea towels. It won't hurt to use interfacing but when it is quilted this will also give the blocks stability. Would love to see photos of your work in progress. Wonderful idea:)

What a great use of the towels this quilt would be! Be sure to show us after you are done!
